Hot Yoga

Hey everyone,
I was thinking about giving hot yoga a try but I was hoping someone who had experience with it could tell me a bit about it. How intense is it? I am not flexible AT ALL but really want to work on that, so is it okay for me to join or will I just be an embarrassment to myself? Thanks!

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE me some Bikram yoga. I've never done "hot" yoga (it's different in the fact that it doesn't follow the teaching/principles of Bikram). Hot yoga is in a room about 95-100 degrees, where as Bikram is a set 105 degrees.
Know this. It's an hour and a half for Bikram, and it kicks your booty. Yes. It's considered a cardio, because your heart rates is constantly up and down.
The first time is always the worst. You have no idea what time it is (there's no clock in the room), you don't know how many poses are left, and you're HOOOOOOT. The hot thing never goes away, but with practice, the other two don't bother you as much.
I've been practicing Bikram for about 3 months, and it's helped me in so many ways. It helps me sleep (I'm a certified insomniac), it helps me be more mindful (of not only what I eat, but my emotions) and it's the one part of the day where I focus on me. :-)
Some tips: Drink a LOT of water throughout the day before you go and bring some for class. During class SIP the water. Large gulps will not be very good for your tummy. Bring a towel for your yoga mat. Bring a change of clothes for after class.
Let me know if you have any more specific questions.

Hot Yoga is a blast. Unlike the PP I don't consider it as cardio. (Search the forums for another recent post on this where the same thing is discussed.) Be very careful not to over stretch. The heat will aid in your movement, so you'll feel more flexible. For your first time, err on the side of caution!0
