Hi Guys,
So I've been jogging off and on (More off than on during April :( ) and I enjoy it. My only problem is that now, My brother has started joining me. I really want to be encouraging, he has weight issues as well, and with his High School sports ending, I feel that he will need something to keep him active, the only problem is... I can't STAND working out with him!
He can be so cocky, and he doesn't really take it seriously. He brags about being so strong and so much more athletic, and he always tells me if I am in pain, that It's fine to go ahead and just walk the rest of the way. It is really annoying. I don't know what to do! I know he thinks he's helping, but all he's doing is slowing me down!
Does anyone have suggestions? I know that, in the end, I'll probably just have to tell him the truth, but I just don't want to sound mean....

The next time you run together, you set the pace.

Be honest with him that you're trying to train YOUR way, and that while you realize his attempts at assistance are well-intentioned they aren't helpful?

A few years ago I dragged my lazy brother out for a run and kicked his but. Then he joined his high school cross country team and can now run circles around me. To be honest, I'm probably the annoying one, not him.

Maybe your brother is just happy to spend time with you? You could try doing fewer of your workouts with him or find other active activities to do together where he couldn't be quite as competitive. Hikes? Bike rides? etc.

I think it's great you're trying to help your brother :) Maybe try suggesting wearing headphones while running together, say the music really motivates you

Thank You guys, for your suggestions.
I think I'll just tell him how it is. It's not fair to either of us if we're not both in sync with running.
