I know this may seem like a dumb question, but I want to know the correct way to take measurements. And what areas do you measure?

Depends which areas you want to keep track of - for most people it's waist, hips and/or thighs and bust.
If you stand still and lean your torso to one side, where the skin creases is your waist. Then roughly 4 inches lower is where your hips are. Using a flexible measuring tape is probably the best way to do it0 -
Hips, Neck, and Waist to track body fat %. Also for women you measure waist at the natural waist (were the belly circumference is lowest), this is usually about halflway between your navel and your sternum (bottom of the breast bone). Its a lot higher on women than men.0

I measure chest, waist, hips, left thigh, left calf and left upper arm.
I measure the chest above my boobs just under my arms, the waist at my belly button, the hips at the widest part, the thigh about six inches above the knee, the calf about 3-4 inches below the knee (at the widest part) and the arm mid way between the shoulder and elbow.
It doesn't matter as much where you measure on your bosy as long as you measure in the same spot each time so you can have an accurate measure for your progress.0 -
I do thighs, widest part of my butt/hip area, belly button waist, smallest part of my way, the widest part of my bust, neck, and arms.0

Waist- For women, bend to the side then measure where the natural break is. For me this is the narrowest point a ways above my belly button. Men usually measure at the bb.
Hips- Widest point of hips, around the butt.
Upper arm- widest point
Thigh- Widest point0 -
I weigh myself, then measure arm, chest, waist, hip (love handles), butt, thigh, and calf. Sometimes I'm looking for increases in measurement (like in my calf, arms, waist where it would probably be muscle) and then other times decreases (hip, thigh, butt) in those areas I store fat. I don't always give as much attention to the scale. For example if I'm decreasing in inches in my hips or increasing in arms, and the scale is the same or up, I'm ok with that. If I'm decreasing in inches in my calves or waist & the scale goes down, I'm not so ok (cause there's not much fat in those areas).
I should say say I only do this once a week or so.0
