Pregnant-exercise & calorie counting?

My husband and I are going to start trying for baby #2. I know I can continue to workout, but must tone it down a bunch. I can't watch my calories like I have been, and I can't get my heart rate too high....140 I believe.
I have made so much progress towards toning my legs and butt, I really don't want to lose it all while being pregnant. Obviously, I want a safe & happy pregnancy, so I am looking for any and all tips & suggestions to maintain tone without going crazy....any advice from moms who've been there and done that?

Why can't you get above 140? I've seen pregnant joggers at the gym running as fast as the non pregnant person next to them.0

My doctor told me to avoid exercises in which my uterus is above my head and anything really high impact or dangerous (horseback riding, skiing, MMA). Apart from that, anything your body is used to doing before you get pregnant, you should, with your doctor's OK, be fine to continue throughout pregnancy. If you have to change anything, it shouldn't be within the first trimester, that's for sure. As far as calories go, your caloric needs don't change dramatically in the beginning of pregnancy, but, unless advised by your doctor, you shouldn't attempt to lose weight while pregnant, ever. My advice would be to accomplish your goal weight before trying to conceive, unless you're already there, in which case, CONGRATS! Your pregnancy will be so much more healthy and comfortable if you start at a healthy weight and lifestyle.0

I was advised that, rather than watching your hear rate, use the "talk test". If you can carry on conversation, you're probably fine. But they also told me anything I did before I could keep doing (aside from the already mentioned high impact stuff, or things that require good balance later on like biking.). Their diet advice was roughly like 300-500 calories more, depending how far along.
I was a lot more active during my second pregnancy and it's made a world of difference for my post partum life. I gained about 40 with both but it was easier to lose this time.
I kept running until around 5 months, then went with walking and low impact cardio until about the last month. That's when I was just done and was a bit more lazy. I even kept up my weight training, I just didn't increase my weights too much.0 -
140 is an old school rule. Most ob's will tell you to listen to your body. You only need a few hundred more calories when pg... about 300. There are some types of fitness activities you can't do but overall a person with a normal pg can exercise throughout the entire pg.0

im 17wks and i currently keep up with my pre-pregnancy workouts. I run, kettlebel, and lots of weighted lunges, squats, stepups, pushups, and core work. My dr. recommended not doing HIIT where the HR is going really high to really low and didnt advise training for a marathon that I planned on PR'ing or anything. He said around 150 is nice for my HR to be but also the talk test is a good way to monitor.
I plan on keeping this up until I cant anymore and then I will modify, but I truly dont see why I wouldnt be able to. So far, Ive only gained 1/2lb since starting my dr. app'ts March 1st. I hope to only gain around 20-25 but Im not tracking calories and just eating good and only when Im hungry..which Ive estimated (since being good at calorie counting) approx. 300-400 extra. I think I am right on track.
Next week is a visit and cant wait to see the baby. Praying for a happy and healthy little one!

Thanks everyone...I am paranoid that I will do something to cause a miscarriage, so I tend to slack off on exercise for fear of that. I am already at my goal weight, I just want to tone. I have worked up a 1 hr weight routine, and do not intend to go up in weight, I will continue with that and alternate between jogging and the weight routine thoughout the pregnancy, using the "talk test" method then
Thank you all SO much for your advice. I don't want to slack off the way I did with my first pregnancy, and I definitely don't want to lose the progress I've made thus far. Congrats to those pregnant and those workin their butts off to make themselves healthier!0 -
Hi just wanted to say i'm 31 weeks & have gained about 22lb so far which seems to be all boobs & bump I increased my cals from 1350 to 1600 for first 2 trimesters & now that i'm on home stretch i range between 1800-1900. This is mainly to allow me all the extra dairy & meat i'm including in my diet to ensure i get enough calcium & iron for baby. For the first part of pregnancy i kept up with normal activity levels except for tae-bo. Since about 24 weeks i have switched to swimming & yoga to teduce the impact on my pelvic joints as i've been having issues with them. You really need to be careful & speak to your Dr about exercise as hormones can make your ligaments softer & more prone to injury. Good luck with concieving you are doing the best thing getting healthy before trying it will be so much better for you & baby .0

I am currently24 weeks pregnant and have gained 17 pounds...any suggestions about mfp and being pregnant?0

I am currently only 7 weeks pregnant, and I have completely modified my nutritional intake like my doctor told me to, and I changed the fitness to include my new "pregnancy routine" as well, however it still has me losing a pound a week right now... I heard that it's bad to lose weight during a pregnancy any thoughts?0

With both my kids, I worked out pretty much the same as I did before I got pregnant right up until (and with my first child - past) my due date. I mostly did step aerobics, just didn't go as high impact. I kept up the abs classes as well, just didn't lay on my back after about the 5th month. I would think that toning (squats, lunges, etc) would be fine to do.0

I'm currently 22 weeks pregnant and I still do all my cardio I did before. Also I changed my calories to "maintain". My doctor told me that as long as it feels okay then go for it. I've only gained 6lbs so far & i'm hoping not to gain much more! lol, I had my scan the other day and the baby is measuring right on track! I figure that unless that doctor tells me she's concerned or I feel concerned I'm going to keep up with it while I can!0
