Kettlebells

Who uses them? What are your favorite exercises? My trainer worked with me on swings, squats, deadlifts, presses and cleans. We've done a few other things but this is what I mainly do. I have been working alone for a few months and we got back together and he said i need to work on my reach back during my swings so I need to get back into deadlifts. I also have been working on my cleans because they aren't smooth. My forearms have matching bruises. Im getting better though and have learned to slow down and control my movements. Its amazing watching people who haven't worked with a professional though and watching how sloppy their movements. I wonder how painful it must be to swing a kettle bell using your back instead of your legs/butt! SO what are your favorite routines.

  • I have a 15lb kettlebell, I use the Jillian Michaels "Shred it with Weights" DVD with it.

I'm currently using the 35-40lb weights for my swings & 20 for everything else.

I have several DVDs to give me a variety.

Jillian Michaels - Shred it with Weights

Bob Harper - Inside out Method Cardio Shred and Body Sculpting

Lauren Brooks - Her first 2 Body Sculpting DVDs and the pregnancy DVD

I really enjoy them. I am currently doing both of the Bob Harper's DVD each week. I use 10 and 15 lb. I did buy a 20 lb, but my back was getting a little sore if I tried to keep up with the DVD. I returned it because I feel like the circut training that are in the DVDs is a great workout with the lower weights as it is.

I had bruises at first, but with control they went away. I bought some gloves from Target. They are wonderful to lift with.

I keep telling everyone how great they are, but I can't get anyone on board. Well, I think that my sister is about to start.

I love Kettlebells, I've been taking classes and doing DVDs for about 3 years. I wasn't a fan of the Jillian Michaels DVD.. but I did love the Bob Harper one. I take a Kettlebell Kickboxing class here in the NYC, and its highly challenging. My instructor is the superfit Russian Martial Artist phenom name Dasha. She just put out her own DVD, and its pretty much what we do in class.

I learned some awesome moves in her classes and would scorch some serious calories. Below is the link to a clip of the DVD.

After watching some girls at the gym I seriously can't imagine trying to learn kettlebell without working with the certified trainer one on one. The girls forms were all wrong. I don't know how they don't damage their backs! I was swinging 35lbs today and honestly can't imagine using less weight. I do a pretty intense circuit with 24lbs.
