Weights? I don't know a thing about them

I want to add resistance or weight training somehow into my regimen. I own a set of 5lb little barbells. That's all I own. I know nothing at all about resistance (even own body resistance would be great) or how to start. I don't know what terms to look up. I just want to be healthy and well rounded in a different way than I'm well rounded now :P Like...lean.

5lb dumbbells won't get you very far in terms of resistance training. If you don't have access to a gym or anything heavier, look into programs like You Are Your Own Gym or Convict Conditioning. Both use your own bodyweight as resistance.0

Do you have access to a gym?0

Thank you, and not really on the gym. We have a gym here, but it has very little in the way of working equipment. I don't get home until late at night and don't feel safe at the gym on property at those hours. I do, however, have a large living room and space to move and great interest in the idea of using my own weight as resistance. I'm going to look that stuff up. I also think eventually, even though right now it doesn't fit our very tight budget, I'll see about weights for our home. We have a dining area where that would also work set up and I think the other half would love it.0

5 pound weights would be just fine to start with pick up a copy of the 30day shred at walmart its about 10.00 its a great place to start
if you don`t have the money to invest in the dvd the level one is on utube for free and its a great work out that includes strength training0 -

Has anyone used these? This sounds like something I could use as I don't have gym access. One of my neighbors (retired military) was lifting rocks on the beach - I thought that was a good idea! Any books about using nature for training?0
