I know this has been discussed over and over again but I am going to ask my question anyway. I haven't been eating my exercise calories back and am now thinking I may need to. My calorie burn is quite high on my workouts and it just seems to be so many extra calories to eat back (like 800 to over 1,000). So should I really be eating all of those calories? It just seems like so many more calories.
I also wanted to add that the trainer I was seeing last year laughed at me when I asked if I should be eating back my calories. Thanks for your help!

HOw do you measure you workout calories? Are you using MFP counts, machine counts or a HRM?
I use machine counts only, because I do not have a HRM and the counts on MFP are way high, so I just don't trust them. I am eating most of mine back when I can and doing fine...still losing, but my counts compared to MFP are about 1/2. My vote is eat half and see how you do and if that doesnt work, adjust again...0 -
How are you calculating this calorie burn? I work pretty hard at exercising myself, and rarely get that high. Sometimes the burn levels in myfitnesspal are, shall we say, a little over-enthusiastic?
If you're really certain about the burn, you should eat back some of the calories, though maybe not all. Otherwise, you'll start burning up your muscle as fuel, or get super-hungry and then pig out.
If you're uncertain, you can get a HRM to wear during exercise and get a more accurate reading.0 -
I calculate my calories through MFP, i think they are high so that is why I am hesitant to eat back all of those calories. I have dropped hints for a HRM for Mother's Day but we will see if that suggestion is taken. I0
