Has this happened to anyone??
I've been hiking a lot lately (15-25 k)
I had really sore big toes awhile back after a hike but didn't take off my nail polish until last night to see bruising under both big toes....My shoes are the right size.
suggestions?

I know you said your shoes are the correct size, but I had to go up a half size in my running shoes to accommodate minor swelling. You should have about a thumbnail width of room between the end of your toe and the front of the shoe. Also, make sure your toe nails are trimmed short, but not too short. Or, maybe it is just time for new shoes?0

That is commonly referred to as "runner's toe", it is caused from constant impacts of friction. A quick search will provide a ton of suggestions on how to prevent it and treatment. Here is the link to one article.

I have a friend who runs and she just lost her toe nail. She said it is common. I say "ouch"!0

It can happen if your nails are too long too. I have to keep my toenails really short for running.0
