Body Shape? Huh? (Pic Included)

I have no idea what my body shape is. I'm guessing either an hourglass or banana/rectangle. My measurements are 37-29.5-37.5. I'm working towards a 27.5 inch waist now, which I guess would then make me an hourglass later ... maybe.
I tend to gain first/lose last from my waist. I'm consider my arms, shoulders, thighs, and legs to be pretty muscular although you can't tell as much in the picture. My waist still has some needed improvement IMHO.
I've probably lost another half inch in my waist since this picture.

According to this site: http://www.calculator.net/body-type-calculator.html you are "banana or straight" body type.
Your post/picture is just one more reminder of how "distorted" our perceptions of our own bodies can be! Your measurements are pretty much the same as mine right now.....36 - 29 - 37.5.....and yet I look at your picture and think there is no way I look as good/thin as you do! You look really great!
I tend to gain weight first on the lower part of my body (hips/thighs) and lose weight first from the top half of my body though....I call it the "filling or draining of the swimming pool" effect. It is hardest for me to lose weight from my hips and thighs (and it hangs on in that area for dear life refusing to let go!) but I guess I am lucky that I am able to trim up my stomach and arms pretty easily. Although I wish I could hang on to a bit more in the bust area! : (
I peeked a bit at your page and it was almost like reading something I wrote when I read your part about "why I want to get into shape". Several years ago I had lost probably around 80 lbs (35-26-34) and it was amazing to be able to go shopping and know that I would be able to find something that fit and looked great. And to be able to look in the mirror and like what I saw. Growing up, I was overweight more times than not and had the wonderful experience of being one of the top five heaviest girls in my grade a few times over the years.
I'm here now on MFP since over the past few years my weight crept back up to where I gained back about half the weight I lost back then. At least I am halfway now to my goal weight. Still disgusted with myself that I allowed myself to get to this point, but feeling better about my ability to make a true life style change in my eating and exercise habits.
Anyway....while I am not one for posting at all (first post here), I had to comment on your post since it reminded me too much of myself.
Congrats again on your success and looking great!!! (you really look good, you know?! You should have no fear to throw a bikini on that bod and hit the beach, girlfriend!)
Take care!0 -
According to my favourite site your body type is straight. I love their tips about dressing your shape

Body distortion really is a b****. I look in the mirror and still see that ... well ... fat girl from two years ago. I have no concept of what other people see when they look at me at all. I have nothing but criticism for myself but it sounds like we both have that problem. We just need to remember that we are beautiful and our hard work shows.Growing up, I was overweight more times than not and had the wonderful experience of being one of the top five heaviest girls in my grade a few times over the years.
haha. I totally understand this, I graduated with 42 in my high school class and I was always taking first or second place on heaviest girl in my grade.I'm here now on MFP since over the past few years my weight crept back up to where I gained back about half the weight I lost back then. Don't beat yourself up too much. You're fixing everything. You've done this before too so you know you can do it again. Others don't even succeed the first time. You're going to succeed at making your goal twice! :flowerforyou:Congrats again on your success and looking great!!! (you really look good, you know?! Thank you, I appreciate that. I'm mainly working on toning and reducing fat/gaining muscle now. I may never be able to actually rock a bikini though because of loose skin around my belly button area but it's been reducing since I've started working out harder. So maybe one day but most likely not this summer. I could probably find a really cute tankini or one-piece though. No more t-shirts covering me in my bathing suits anymore! That's still an improvement. :happy:0 -
