are so sore... even getting up from sofa hurts like mad. I did go in the steam room for a while after training because I knew I had pushed my body into the pain zone and I absolutely love it. So, I was wondering if it is okay to take a painkiller for this pain. I don't want to miss out on my training tomorrow.

Thanks in advance,

Helen

    It is okay to take a painkiller. I would avoid non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, because inflammation is what promotes repair. Take Tylenol instead of ibueprofin.

    am out of epsom salts but I just found a muscle gel, I might rub that on before I go to bed. I remember the doctor telling me not to use the rub in combination with co codamol.

    Also stretching helps. One night I as in a LOT of pain from over doing it. I popped in a DVD with a 20 min stretch at the end.

    I felt great once it was done!!

    I hope you feel better Helen! It is great to work out but I hate when I over do it.

    When I first started weight training I got on the adductor machine. Oh I could do 70 pounds over and over and over. A woman across from me said you better stop or you wont be able to stand up in the morning.

    She was right..............oweeeeeeeeeee. :laugh:

    I second the stretching. For me, sometimes going for a leisurely walk helps to work out sore muscles.

    I have a new training schedule, my trainer gives me a different one every 12 sessions, it was indeed the second time at this but I love pushing myself too. I did 90 min. which was a bit more than what my schedule says but I just had loads of energy.:laugh: I do interval training... it feels sooo good :wink: :drinker:

    if anyone is still out there?
    My abductors and quads are always tight and sore, I am running 2days on and 1 off, but I take ibuprofin... the tylenol didn't seems to help much. any advice for me?
    I stretch every day, before and after, I have take ibuprofin an hour before I get out of bed in the morning so it has time to work before I have to move.

    I don't get to go to a gym, so any special stretches or exercises that might help?

    Classical Stretch has the most awesome leg stretches. I use the one for high performance atheletes and don't think I could have done P90X without it.

    It's an oldie but I see it on eBay sometimes.

    If you are having any swelling, inflammation, redness, a lump, or a divot you should not be using heat. While the heat can make it feel better it can make all of the above worse. The best suggestion is RICE:
    R = rest the area for a day or two to allow it heal, find another activity and work out another part of the body;
    I = ice, it is your best friend, it will numb the pain and it will decrease hypoxia which is secondary cell death due to swelling and inflammation (the reason why a sprained ankle feels worse the next day);
    C = compression if there is swelling as long as the swelling is not in the lower leg (DO NOT COMPRESS THE SHIN OR CALF);
    E = elevation, if possible raise the injured part above the heart to reduce swelling.

    Other than that, it is recommended to ice for the first 72 hours or until swelling is gone, after 72 hours heat before working out an ice afterwards. If you have a lump or a divot where your pain is or using RICE does not reduce the pain you should definitely see a doctor. Always better to be safe than sorry.

    I am an athletic trainer (the person who runs out on the field and helps athletes when they get hurt), but remember these are just suggestions and you should always follow the direction of your doctor. :smile:

    Welsh girls, Rock! (side note: my husband's maternal great-grandfather was born in Wales, and as far as we know we have 2 remaining relatives in Wales. They sent us a Love Spoon when we got engaged.)

    Okay - with all that said...have you considered trying a muscle rub? Using it has really helped me A LOT lately.

    Hope you're feeling 100% again very soon.

    Thanks Mishy :flowerforyou: If you have a lovespoon and have children you might want to consider coming over and adding some balls (1 ball = 1 child) :happy:

    My legs do feel a lot better this morning, I might pop into town today to get some kind of muscle rub and some epsom salts for the bath. I can imagine I will be needing it again, I am totally hooked :bigsmile: :laugh:

    Thank you for all your replies, you have been amazing :flowerforyou: :drinker:

    It is a beautiful country (without sounding too biast) http://www.usa.visitwales.com/server.php?show=nav.8874 if you ever venture out this way:wink:

    Back to my quads, I decided to rest them after all, I took my son and his friend swimming instead and did some laps. I know that's not resting them completely but I just can't sit down all day, I'd go potty :laugh:

    LOL!

    I do 4 leg machines at the gym

    Leg Curls 3 15 50 remove
    Leg Extension 3 15 50 remove

    Adductor 3 15 50 remove
    abductor 3 15 50 remove

    Leg Press 3 15 75 remove

    I added the leg press and went up 10 pounds on each exercise yesterday and today I am using all the suggestions you have on this thread !!:laugh:
