okay so having issues hitting protein goals so thought I could throw in a shake but having a few issues at the moment. Soooo I have just gone to boots to look at the options and am totally baffled. They have but two shakes on offer sculpturess and slim fast, now I am no expert so this may well be a stupid question but in a serving which are identical there is a 0.4% difference in the protein levels so before I go and buy the higher one is there anything I should know about the following:

Is slim fast just the same as most other protein shakes?
is 14.4 protein good?
before or after a work out?
How many calories is the average shake?
and finally do you find that you lower your food intake or up it?

Thanks

I believe Slim Fast is a meal replacement shake.

I like to drink Bio Chem vanilla protein powder mixed with water or you can also blend with a banana, strawberries, peanut butter, or whatever you would like. I like to have that in addition to what I eat during the day for protein. It isn't a meal replacement powder/shake.

I don't know what sculptures is though. Is that a meal replacement shake like Slim Fast?

I would say eat regular food to get your protein, and then add a protein shake if you need extra protein. The setting for protein on MFP is low, so you can adjust your protein settings manually.

If you do a search on protein shakes, there is a lot more information that is interesting to read. Good luck with everything! :)

I'd probably head to Holland & Barret rather than Boots - I think those shakes may have been in the 'diet' section, and I don't think Boots actually stock proper protein shakes (I may be wrong though). Holland & Barret stock loads of them.

If you're in he UK it might be worth having a look at a website called Dolphin Fitness. I get my protein powder from my trainer but I've got firends who get theirs from that website.

most protien shakes are actually supposed to help with meal replacement.
not sure if you are going for a specific kind or anything but im always WAY over my protien for the day AND week.

if youre looking for something tasty with a good amount of protein,
bolthouse farms sells different flavors in about 16oz bottles.
for example vanilla chai protien (17g) or mango (30g)
the only downside is it has a LOT of sugar it in and quite a few calories.

the one i drink at least once a day is called Premier Protein.
you can get it in a pack of 24 at costco.
it has 30 grams of protein, 160 calories and only 1 gram of sugar.

    just some ideas. =)

Drink milk. An 8oz glass of milk has 8 grams of protein.

I drink optimum nutrition whey protien every morning and if I still need more protein at the end of the day then I have another shake before bed. It is whey powder and i mix it with water. It provides me with 23 grams of protein in each shake. I like chocolate and strawberry flavors. Check it out!

For meal replacement shakes i like Athlete's Honey Milk which is now called Core Power. It's a ready to drink. All flavors are good. I have tried the regular and the light.

Look for the MyProtein website if you are in the UK. I use their 'Impact Whey', mixes really easily in just a shaker and the Chocolate Mint tastes like a melted mint Aero....mmmmmm

I have 2 * 25 gram scoops which is about 40g protein in total, mixed with skimmed milk.

I've used the Holland and Barrett stuff before but it doesn't match up to the MyProtein stuff in either taste (taste IS very subjective obviously) and the amount of protein per serving/price

I'd agree with what others have said, Slim Fast are more meal replacements and are higher in sugar and low in protein if my memory serves me well.
