Smaller more frequent meals vs. 3 meals a day

Has anyone tried this? I feel like everytime I eat what I consider a regular size meal I just get so bloated. I am sure eating smaller meals (healthy snacks) more frequently would eliminate this. Has anyone tried it for weight loss? If so, has this approach been successful?
