BMR Calculations? Doesnt' seem right?

On these message boards you see many people talking about BMR, and your daily calorific needs.
When I went on a BMR calculator and then from that working out my calories, it says I need to eat about 2600 (depending on exercise) calories a day. With the -500 calories for weight loss that would still be over 2000! Now, I am eating under 1500 each day at the moment... and I would STRUGGLE to eat that much without gaining weight?! So how come when there is so much talk about this, it is actually pretty unattainable in my eyes...

I eat pretty well, and no more than other people I know. Breakfast (a bagel or toast) at 200-300 calories, Lunch (sandwich, museli bar and low fat crisps) at 350-400, Dinner (pasta or potato with half plate veg) at 500 max and snacks (yoghurt, museli, fruit) totally 200ish... so its not like I'm starving myself!

I don't know what to do and how much to eat, of course I want to eat the best for my body but it seems so unattainable and taking 5 steps backwards?

btw, my weight is 188 and I'm about 5'7

I eat more often and higher calorie foods than you do. In addition to eating the 3 meals you eat, I also add in 3 snacks a day. Add more snacks, and choose high calorie snacks (nuts, peanut butter, avocado are good choices) if you want to reach 2000 calories a day. You will probably need to experiment with how many calories you eat over a couple of months to figure out what is ideal for you to attain the weight loss you want.
