I have just started - 10 days in & feel good!! But I am often maxing out on protein & carbs before I reach anywhere near my calorie goals - would love to hear any suggestions of foods that I could use to boost my calories.

Could be wrong, but I don't think there is anything wrong with going over on protein- I wouldn't worry about that. As far as carbs, I'm not real sure. I've never really looked into it- wish I had a better answer, but I'm sure someone does... :flowerforyou:

I always try (and note the word "try," because it doesn't always work so well) to include fresh veggies and fruits into my diet plan. If you fill up on them, you feel more satisfied for a longer period of time and you won't feel as much of a craving for starchy or ..erm..carb-y foods. It's harder for your body to digest plant material than protein, therefore you feel more full for a longer period of time because it takes your body longer to break down those foods. It seems to be working pretty well for me. Good luck!

Not sure what you are eating but if you are eating "low-fat" foods they are usually stripped of fat and replaced with carbs. Try relpacing any processed foods with fresh fruits and veggies. That way if you go over on carbs, at least they are good carbs and paired with protien they are they are even better.

Check the ratios MFP has you at for your goals. If you set them with the "guided," MFP will have automatically set you to 55% carbs/15% protein/30%fat. You can change the ratios by going to "My Home", click "goals", click "change", and selecting custom instead of guided.

I have seen recommendations for 40/30/30 ratio of carbs/protein/fat for weightloss. I personally chose 50/25/25 ratio. The standard ranges I've seen have been 40-60% carbs, 20-30% protein, and 20-30% fat. Set the ranges for some thing you think YOU can stick in but if you set it to 60% carbs and you are still going over regularly, you may need to look at your diet to make sure you are getting enough healthy fats and lean protein and not eating too many refined carbs.

I took this quote from dietitian.com and I love it because it reflect how I try to look at food:
"There is no bad food and sugar is not poison. Some foods are more healthy to eat more often (i.e. lower fat, more fruits, vegetables and grains). It is the quantity of unhealthy foods (i.e. high fat, high calorie) that is a bigger problem. This perspective though must be tempered by maintaining a healthy weight and daily exercise program."

If you are maxing out on protein and carbs, then there is only fat left. I think the food you are selecting from the database is wrong.

If you are trying to lose weight, then increase your protein in take. Change the Goals for protein to something higher. I believe by default it is set to 15%. Set it 20% or higher.
