Shoes affect running form?

For about 6 weeks I was running with my everyday sneakers (Asics cross trainers that I've had for at least a year or so). I had gotten to where I could run 3 miles without pain, etc. Granted, I was slow, but I was doing it. I decided after reading on this forum, to invest in real running shoes, and to use them only for running. It hurts (ankles mainly) like crazy to run in my new shoes. Is it possible I learned bad form in my old shoes? I can only do a little less than 2 miles in the new shoes before I have to stop because of pain. Anyole else experience something like this, or able to offer any advice?
Thanks!

Did you get your new shoes properly fitted at a running store, where they watch how you run on a treadmill?
If they are causing you pain they are not the right shoes for you, I'd go back to the store with them. Most stores will exchange within a few weeks if the shoes they recommended are not suitable.

did you have someone at a running store help you pick the best pair of shoes for your running form/foot? Usually a new pair of shoes feel like heaven, so I'm wondering if you didn't get the right ones for you?
