One week in and discouraged already

I just started on the myfitnesspal site and although I love the convenience of it all:happy: , I am discouraged:ohwell: . Prior to starting this I was losing 2 lbs a week . The first day I started this I weighed in and did not lose anything from the week before. This time, I gained 2 lbs:explode: . The site says that having friends helps... so I am going to reach out to anyone that is willing to be that.:flowerforyou:
I will start off by giving you a little background...
I am a 39 year old mother of 4 . I started this becuase I work for a company that is about living healthy, active lifestyles. I have a sedentary job so it does not help. I am about 75 lbs or more overweight:blushing: . At this point I have put my weight loss goal at 50 lbs.
I had health issues last year and ended up having major surgery. 6 to 8 months before my surgery I started working out and went to the gym religiously . I did not weigh myself back then but I know it helped because I recovered in days and have had family members that had the same surgery years ago and they are still trying to recover.
I feel like now is the best time to get started and I am ready. I go to the gym about 3 to 5 times a week. I am ready. My coworkers have said they think the 2 lbs is muscle gain. They dont know how discouraging that sounds. I am over the 200 lb mark so to add another 2 lbs onto that is just plain mean!:frown:
So anyone that would like to reach out to me, I would love the advice, help, handholding, etc. I am very good at getting back, giving back, checking in, and holding you accountable. (Don't let that last part scare you or hold it against me)

But it is probably true... if you have been exercising and eating right... your weight gain is muscle. And be encouraged, because muscle burns more fat than fat. So while it may seem that the fat is winning because of the number on the scale, in truth it may be that muscle is winning. I try to get more attached for motivation to how I feel physically versus the number on the scale, ie: I can do 3 more push ups than last week, when my kid said "let's run, Mom!" I could, I can wear clothes I could not previously wear. I have been told that women fluctuate in their weight more than men. I know I can be terribly bloated with water one week, and not the next. Don't give up.0

Thanks that is just the motivational stuff I need.0

The weight fluctuations could also be water. If you have eaten foods higher in sodium you will tend to hold onto water. I get discouraged alot myself but I remember that it takes an extra 3500 calories to male a pound of fat and I KNOW I have not eaten that many calories so it has to be water or muscle Feel free to add me, I'm on every day0

I just started a week ago too! I'm purposely staying off the scale for another week or so, just so I don't get frustrated & quit I know logically that now that I'm working out, the numbers will almost definitely go up a little before they start going down. I KNOW this, but if I watch it happen I will get upset anyway. Instead of making myself crazy, for now I'm just focusing on other things. Like the fact that I can stay on the elliptical 10 minutes longer than last week & keep up a better pace. Running up the stairs doesn't seem as daunting as it did a few weeks ago. I'm not dreading workouts like I used to. Find your good stuff (I'm positive there is some!) and don't worry about the rest just yet. That's my advice anyway, hope it helps! :happy:0
