Not sure if you can help me...

Lately, I've been having 1 tbsp. of creamy peanut butter every morning with Eggo Nutri-grain Low-fat waffles and 1 serving of Maple Grove No Sugar Syrup for breakfast with coffee or tea. THIS is my daily indulgence. I've only started doing this this past week. What are your thoughts on this? Am I setting myself up for weight gain because of the fat - just 'cause its peanut butter!!!?? I've looked for the "natural" peanut butters and at the almond butters, etc. They're all pretty much the same. The "natural" ones actually are more cals and fat. I just don't know...

Peanut butter contains healthy fats, so I doubt it'll hurt you. Might even help! The only way to know, though, is to log the calories each day and see what happens at the end of the week. How often do you do a weigh-in?0

Not eat Peanut Butter I'd die!0

This is an indulgence of mine a lot too. But I use the natural Jiff. It is about the same calories but it's pretty much just peanuts so it's healthier. Like the other poster said the fats in peanut butter are good fats. But you want to measure (sounds like you already do) to make sure you don't eat too much of it. I don't think this is bad for you if you have it everyday as long as you're logging everything. If you see that you're weight loss has slowed or stopped then you may want to look at changing things up.
Good luck and enjoy that peanut butter.0 -
Thanks y'all. I guess I was hoping y'all would say that!!! :blushing:
I DO measure faithfully and, to be honest, I probably could get away with only 1/2 tbsp. The whole breakfast is only 270 calories. Next time I'm in town, I think I'll go to the health food store to check out what they have.
I weigh in no more than once a week. I've been struggling lately with working out. I've had ALOT going on since my son's accident. I can tell that the weight is starting to creep up on me. My family says no but I can feel it coming. Today I did the total workout routine. Ran a 15 minute mile, pilates, slim and limber and slim in 6 start it up! Yesterday, I mowed our entire lawn. The first time in 20 years I mowed anything! LOL I felt great, though. And, no, it wasn't a riding mower. I used a push power mower. You all just don't know how funny that is... :laugh:0 -
peanut butter is a staple, not an indulgence

I DO agree! It may be silly but, I've "deprived" myself of peanut butter for so long, I REALLY feel naughty when I eat it for breakfast...:devil:0 -
I agree! A staple in my diet!!! I have it almost every morning...my daughter is allergic to milk protein so I've had to cut out my cereals and yogurts (still breastfeeding)...it's a great energy food to start my day!!!0

I'm a peanut butter fanatic and I have waffles in the freezer... you are my inspiration for breakfast tomorrow :flowerforyou: lol0

FWIW, I tried a pb&j sandwich using name-brand peanut butter and it sent my glucose skyrocketing--one of the highest pro-breakfast readings I have ever gotten (148). Even if you are not diabetic, I can't imagine that's a good thing. I would definitely go with a "natural" style that has just peanuts and maybe a little salt--no sugar. The extra oil is kind of a pain to deal with, but it if definitely the only choice, as far as I am concerned.0

Thanks. I'm seriously thinking of making my own. I just need to figure out how...:laugh:0

The nice thing about fresh made peanut butter or natural is you can let it sit and settle once it has done that you can pour the extra oil out if you'd like but you have to refrigerate fresh made so it can be a little hard to spread
Peanut butter is our friend!0 -

My experience has been that if you pour off the extra oil, you are left with "concrete" at the bottom of the jar. I fought that battle for 30 years until I remarried and, with the new wife and 2 kids teamed up against me, got lazy and settled for the "brand name" stuff (big mistake). I haven't gone back yet because I have been out of work since January and really don't have the grocery $$ to buy the more expensive stuff. For now, I have just eliminated it altogether. The dog gets the leftover stuff--that's his treat when mom and dad need some alone time. That way we both get what we want ;-)0 -
