When you can't use a scale?

Hi all! I'm trying to find an alternative to the scale for my husband. He has nerve damage from a car accident, and balancing on a scale is practically impossible for him. Would measuring body fat using something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Omron-Logic-Monitor-model-HBF-306C/dp/B00006WNPU be a worthwhile alternative for tracking progress? I know pictures and a measuring tape help, but his balance presents issues with the tape as well (it's doable, but not easy).

With the Omron Body Fat Analzyer, you would need to keep it up to date with his current weight.... so it may not be a good option.0
