One of my biggest problems is controling the ammount I eat.. If I want a candy bar it was king size or two.. If I want eggs it 5 eggs.. But when it comes to salad Spinache what do I do.. I wanna eat till I am full is it okay to eat raw spinache till I am full or is that still considered over eating??? I am doing great on my portions of protiens and I have cut out all junk but I still find myself over eating when it comes to lettice and spinache.. I just need to get some opinions

There is a very scary pair of concepts that leads you to first stop making excuses as to why you got fat; and then execute a plan in which you will make yourself no longer fat. One of these pretty much applies to everything in life, and understanding it will make most things like not overeating and getting your taxes done on time pretty easy to accomplish.
The first bit is realizing that your brain, your hands, your feet, your eyes, your tongue, your vag (or c*ck), etc are all completely owned and operated by you. Nobody else is responsible but you. Do you ever hear someone talking about their brain or their stomach like they bought it at an Apple Store and it commands them to do things via voice prompts?
Yeah that's kind of f*cking weird isn't it?
You, and only you alone can tell yourself to pay attention to you actually being hungry and no longer needing to put things in your mouth. Can you get fat on spinach and lettuce? Sure as *kitten* can, you'd have to eat a ton of it, and you can actually cause other problems by eating too much of anything, but the simple point is that if you go over your calories on whatever the *kitten* you put in your mouth to the tune of a surpluss of 3500 a week, you will gain a pound of week.
Now that you (hopefully) understand that your body is not some car you drive that you occasionally lose control of and it has that cool feature that auto parallel parks for you an- aww *kitten* did my car just auto park itself over a cat?
It's so hard getting that out of your tire treads, but I digress...
You know how we fix all that though? You say no. You say no to yourself and you don't pout about it because the only reason you should be saying it is for a purpose. Do you care enough to lose weight? Say no at bite number 5 when considering bites number 6-10. Examine your hunger, are you really hungry? Are you feeling the need to eat because well...you just do that stuff? Will your hunger kill you if you drink a glass of water and go read a book for half an hour or do something else to keep you busy?
Nopers.
Just relax, remember who's in control, and surrender to the fact you can just stop and start as needed.0 -
Lettuce and spinach are great roughage. three cups of spinach is what, around maybe 21 calories? It has some value in some of what is in it, but for fuel, it's really not much of anything. It's good to have with something (which you do, I've noticed) but it's not really a lot more than a filler in most cases. Think about every food choice you make and what you put into your body. If I put mayo on something, I'm realizing that yes...it has fat and icky stuff, do I want to deal with that consequence? Sure, it's a tiny bit and a hint of flavor for me.
Right now, I eat bread that while yummy isn't where I want it to be nutritionally. That will change as I go shopping again. Low on food stuff here. I eat a lot of fish and chicken because of the nutrition. I love broccoli for the nutrition and the taste. I concern myself with portions, what I put on my food, in my food. A salad is useless, for example, if it's covered with oil and fat in the form of most dressings. I use just enough for flavor, and that's it. It's barely visible, but I can taste it. I eat -real- food because without it, I'd feel deprived and my body would BE deprived and I won't do that to myself. To me, that's setting myself up for failure. I also make sure I'm over 1300 calories. 1200 was recommended once by a doc, but I honestly feel that that's too low because I like to be more active. It's usually closer to 1400-1600 or more due to activity. My weightloss shows as 0 because I just started on here. I've gone down over 25lbs and several sizes.
Time and again we see people here who have less than 1000 calories intake and they're done for the day. What's going to happen in a few weeks? Either they binge or they're on their way to an eating disorder. Your daily goal is 1700. You stopped at just under 800. That's scary. Overeating isn't your worry here, it's under eating which is just as detrimental. I would take time to consider the food pyramid, things we need to survive. I like Paleo and similar concepts, though I can't afford them unfortunately due to budget. I like that the less refined stuff we eat the better it is for our body. I like the balance of meat with Veggies, real veggies. Spinach has its place as it has value, but it's not that much for fuel, more for vitamins. I still need to see how accurate this is, but: http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/vegetables-and-vegetable-products/2626/2 As an example. Tons of vities, very little fuel.
Obviously, you can eat the way you want. I'd love to see you set up for success as you seem an awesome person and you have great goals that I believe you can accomplish. I come from a bulimic background. I know eating disorders, bad body image, failure and the emotional and physical devastation that comes from them. I have health issues gallore at this point. The last thing I know I need is to set myself up to fail. So I will eat enough and make better food choices. I rarely eat eggs, but I ate an egg sandwich today. It has nutrition in it and I like it. The bread...eh. Not happy with it, but I don't eat a ton of bread either. It's weighing what you eat. What also helps me is avoiding sweets. Allowing a small treat here and there, but not a full portion or binge amount. I don't feel cheated at any corner and I'm happy with myself even if I'm not happy with where my body is physically right now. It's getting there.
"You, and only you alone can tell yourself to pay attention to you actually being hungry and no longer needing to put things in your mouth." I agree with this fully. What you fill up on spinach and lettuce you deprive yourself of other nutrients you need to take in for your body to successfully get healthy. Now that I've rambled....I'm not perfect. I'm still learning nutrition. What I do know is that I failed miserably over and over again by not EATING. I destroyed my health. I'm rebuilding. This is all just my opinion, but I'd worry about eating too little.0 -

Just as someone who is familiar with Chris' posts, I can see how you would see it that way, but I don't think he meant to sound like he was admonishing you. He uses the eff bomb as adjectives/nouns/verbs/etc a lot but he's very straightforward and honest. He's more brash than rude. I actually find it refreshing but understand how some wouldn't.
Both he and the other response gave more or less the same general advice I would. :-)
Good luck and add me if you'd like for motivation and encouragement.

Invest in a food scale. It helps me a lot! If you want something, have a serving of it. Eat 5-6 small meals a day. Have a glass a water with whatever you are eating. Sometimes, your stomach is playing tricks on you. If you want to eat spinach until you feel full, go ahead....at least it's healthy lol rather than a few reese cups. I don't spinach would ever make me feel full ( not a big fan anyway). If you are going to have some spinach, why not pair it with a piece of grilled chicken?0

I verbally abuse you because I care.
(Actually I just prefer cutting to the point, we're cool though, glad you got the message)0
