Hello everyone!! Does anyone have any tips on running a 5k?? What to eat for breakfast on race day?? Water bottle or no water bottle while racing? How to handle the heat?? I ran my first 5k and I had to walk at least 3/4 of a mile because I was feeling sick to my stomach. I did however finish in 35:12 so I did not think that was that bad!! Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

My race day breakfast is usually a whole wheat english muffin with peanut butter, small glass of milk, and a banana. That's great fuel for me, but everyone's body is different. I like to carry a small water bottle with me, but if it's a race, it may be provided for you. Good Luck

I havn't run a race in a long time and dont remember what I did but have been using http://www.time-to-run.com/ to get back into it, it has all sorts of information including nutririon on it. But a lot of people here use couch to 5k which I'm gathering will also have helpful information. If it's really hot or humid a drink with electrolytes help gard against dehydration, which may help you. And one rule is NEVER have oranges or orange juice before you exercise, most people who feel sick when they exercise have had oranges, keep them for after.! Any way hope it helps:wink:

most races provide water on the course, drink if needed. Unless it is really hot i skip the water until after i find it hard to drink on the run, it's a short race so depending on your fitness your body should be able to handle it.

I have just a piece of toast with jelly and a glass of skim milk. I also try to drink water at least 2 hours pre-race. Depends on how early a riser you are and how early the race is. If I drink too close to race time, it jiggles in my tummy as i run

I wouldnt run a 5k w/a waterbottle (unless it's crazy hot outside) like leanne said it's a pretty short race and you should be fine....just make sure you're hydrated before the race, grab a cup along the course (if you need it) if they have a water point and drink water/sports drink after.

as far as breakfast, I normally have a piece of wheat toast w/PB and some OJ atleast an hour before.

35:12 is a great time for your first race!! Keep up the good work!! :flowerforyou:
