Calories Burnt

I once read that a common mistake when working out calories burnt is not deducting your Basic Metabolic Rate from your workout calories. It pretty much said to get the best accurate defecit calculation you should allow for what you would have normally burnt. For example if you sat watching tv for an hour then you'd still burn lets say 60 calories. I therefore deduct this from my Heart rate monitor calorie expenditure to give me a fair extra burnt above normal rate! Just wondering if anyone else does this or am i just a bit OCD lol....
