Maintenance its a scary thing!

So i finally reached my goal of 51kg (im 5ft 3) so now i have moved up to maintenance calories. Did anyone else have an overwealming fear of eating "so much" and think they will put on weight again! I am also finding it quite hard after training myself to have only 1200 to up it to 1590... Still at the moment ending up with a spare 3-400 at the end of the day! Does mean i get to have a treat but im finding im just making myself eat so that i bump it up lol.. Anyone else in the same boat? lol.

  • I have absolutely no qualms with eating more if I have leftover calories at the end of the day. In fact, it's probably my favorite part of the day. At first I had the fear too, and sometimes I still do, but I just take it in stride for now and ignore minor weight fluctuations. If suddenly I have to loosen my belt a notch, that's when I'll know I need to eat less, but until then... I shall enjoy my late night snacks.

I still have a ways to go, but this is always in the back of my mind for when I hit maintenance

Really interested in hearing some more responses

I've been on maintenance for almost a year now. It seemed like a lot to eat at first, but I adapted fairly easily. I have not gained any back. I love maintenance - it's easier than you think. Now I mostly just use MFP to track my nutrients and fiber and for keeping track of fitness training - marathon coming up. :drinker:

When I need those extra calories I incorporate calorie dense foods to get me there and bigger portions.

    I:
have peanut butter with my apple instead of just the apple
sneak a hand full of trail mix when I get home
have two pieces of toast with my scrambled egg whites in the morning
make beets with feta cheese instead of broccoli with salt.
dip veggies in ranch instead of eating raw.

Try to add the calories evenly across carb/protein/fat macros so it doesn't turn into eating junk food to make up the difference. I learned that the hard way. oooh look -- "free" 500 calories, I'll have another desert. Yeah, that was a slippery slope.

Congrats on achieving your goals and starting maintenance goals.

i have a ways to go as well. my plan is to eat at the maintenance level of my goal weight. i'm hoping if i do it that way then i wont have to worry about fiddling with calories.
