my best friend used to have major issues with bm's (wouldn't go for days) and she tried a variety of things that never worked. she finally tried papaya tablets and had some good success with it. maybe it's something to talk to your doctor about...

My 4 year-old son has megacolon (encropsis). His colon is extremeley stretched out from poop and the colon can no longer squeeze the poop out. The dr. said he should have 1-2 soft BM's per day and we adjust his meds as needed. He uses miralax daily and other stool softeners and enemas as needed. You should drink plenty of water when using these because of dehydration and electrolyte issues. Our colon is a slow working organ and poop will get packed in there. I just read an article on "Soiling Solutions" and the dr said that some children have actually been so chronic that half their body weight was poop.

Poor little guy ... my heart goes out to him.
Thank you. (I apologize I spelled the disease wrong-it's encopresis) Isn't it interesting the responses you received on this subject matter?

Yes, I have actually heard that running is a natural laxative.

I hate fiber supplements. I've taken them in the past and they make me feel terrible as well! Your best bet is to get fiber through food, whole grains, veggies, etc. But I also take a probiotic I found at Whole Foods which promotes stomach and intestinal health and I swear it's made a huge difference in my digestion. Good luck! :flowerforyou:

I was going to suggest a probiotic along with all the fiber your getting from the vegetables and fruits you are now eating............

Also, my cousin when he was born only poo'd once every few days and my uncle and his wife were concerned about it.............The Dr stated that as long as he stayed on the same schedule and didn't go 2 days in a row and then didn't go at all for a few days, then "going" every 3 days was his "normal'

My normal is 2 times a day...............my hubby always jokes that is because I am full of it......

We are all different, I heard someone say that we should eliminate after everytime we ate..........I asked the Dr and he said No, that is not the case.

I spoke with my new doctor and she agrees that as long as I'm feeling okay then I don't have to go every day. I also went to the health food place and talked to them about colon cleansing and explained that I want to be clean but I don't want to be drastic. I don't want to give myself any kind of extreme symptoms. He reccommended ground brown flax seeds. He said it would be more like a gentle sweeping out of the colon and would assist with the way it functioned. I've been taking about a tablespoon daily with my oatmeal, yogurt, dinner, juice or where ever I can get it in for the day and it seems to be helping (I don't take more because its about 80 calories per tablespoon). I've had no bloating or cramping or flu like symptoms ... just regular movements as it should be. I'm so glad I got this kind of response to this posting ... I hope it has helped others as much as it has helped me.

My family always joked that I was weird because I only need to "use it" once every two or three days. So glad I can rub it in their faces now! Well not IT, but the fact that I am normal. :drinker:

magglett, glad to hear you found something that's working.

I used to have ground flax seed on everything.
Yogurts, smoothies, dinners, spread it on a sandwich, cereal.

You'll find you can sprinkle it on almost anything.
