Just wondering if anyone is a cycling fan and excited about the Tour de France starting on Saturday? Any favorites? Predictions? For those of you who have a stationary bike or a trainer for your road bike, it's extremely motivating to be watching the world's most challenging endurance race while working out!!! VS network has excellent race coverage. Works for me!!

Cool! My area has some nice hills too! I'm getting better at climbing. Anyone here follow the Tour de France? I tried to get a thread going yesterday about the Tour and got 2 responses. Not too many women are into it, I guess.

I have a really kick butt bike that my boyfriend bought me a couple years ago. I love to bike ride but I'm ashamed to say I don't ride it much because I'm afraid of falling off. I'm short so it's hard even on the lowest level to touch the ground when I need to stop. I also just don't feel like I have control of it because of the way my weight is distributed. This is getting better with weight loss and I am working on getting over my fears so I can ride more because I love it!

    Have fun!

Oh, and I do love to watch the Tour de France. I am in awe!

Sounds like the frame might be too big for you, Carmen. You should be able to stand with the bike under you and have about an inch or 2 of clearance between you and the top tube of the bike. If you can't stand over it (no tip toes) then it may be too big.

Also, if you're a little nervous about riding outside, maybe you can check out your local bike shop for a trainer. Forgive me if you already know what this is, but in case you don't... a trainer is a stand that you can, basically, hook to your bike, converting it to a stationary bike. You can change the resistance be switching gears. Great to have around on those rainy days and through the winter. Might be worth looking into

Shanta, you can take the same advice I just gave Carmen about the size of the bike. Your local bike shop is always the best place to go. They'll actually fit you for your bike

Good for you!!! I recommend watching the Tour de France for some serious motivation and inspiration. Vs network has practically all-day coverage and it lasts for 3 weeks starting July 4th. It's my favorite time of year (besides Christmas:tongue: )!!!

Thank you so much for your words of wisdom. I have never heard of a trainer but actually would LOVE to get one!! I got my bike at the bike shop and I will look there for one. I'm not sure what size my bike is but actually I think it may be okay for my height (5ft) or lack of. LOL ...I feel comfortable with the seat down at it's lowest, like then I can touch the ground, but then when I peddle I feel like my knees are hitting me in the chest. A trainer would be AWESOME. Can you take the bike off and on the trainer if I would choose to take it outside??

    Thanks so much!

Yep, it's easy to take the bike off and on the trainer. It would also be a good idea to take your bike with you to the bike shop. If they're serious dealers, they'll adjust your bike for you while it's on the trainer. I'm fortunate to have a shop nearby that has extremely knowledgeable people. The owner set my bike up for me... Even using a protractor to make sure my elbow and knee angles were correct! Talk about thorough!!!
