When looking back into my food diay I seem to eat alot of sodium! Id like to reduce it because I feel it is keeping me from losing any weight. any suggestions?? Ill open up my diary for those who want to take a look and maybe give me some advice on things I could substitute for what I am eating that has high sodium. thanks!

  • Sodium is not going to keep you from losing fat. It might screw with what the scale says because of water retention, but as far as fat is concerned calories is all that matters.

I can't tell what you are eating so I don't know what you prefer, but I do know anything processed has way more sodium than anything not processed. Maybe try switching to non-processed foods?

I go over on sodium, but drink 8 -10 glasses of water/day...It helps flush the sodium..

You just have to stay away from frozen foods and restaurants for the most part. That is where most of it comes from. You can see a lot of your sodium is coming from deli meats, frozen foods, and fast food. If you want to reduce it, you pretty much have to go fresh foods. For instance, instead of deli meats, I usually will cook a ham, turkey, or etc. Then I slice it up for my sandwiches for the week. You'll get differing opinions on how important it is, but if you want to lower it you probably will have to stick with fresh foods to keep it below 2500mg.

I've been watching my sodium for the past couple of weeks. It's very tough. Biggest sinners of sodium are restaurants of all kinds, normal canned soups and cooked food at the supermarket (chicken, etc).

Despite all that, I've been mostly under 2300mg a day. Also I drink about one gallon of water daily and try my best to increase my potassium, because sodium and potassium work hand in hand.
