Okay, so from June 08 to April 09 I lost like 30+ lbs. Then from April 09 to mid June 09 I lost another 30lbs. So good but now I'm on "maintenance" mode until the 5th of July (that's when I start the ChaLEAN Extreme Challenge). I did this because I was at a serious plateau and thought that if I did maintenance mode until the challenge, well then the challenge would kick start me back into the losing weight mode. I have 40lbs left to lose. I've only gained a couple pounds since being on maintenance mode but i'm like getting anxious. i'm ready for it to be the 5th. i want to start now! but i made a goal/plan and i want to stick to it. do any of you think this technique will actually work or am i just sabatoging my weightloss??

First of all, WAY TO GO!!! on your weight loss already!! WOW!!! Very encouraging!!
    What is ChaLEAN Challenge?
Anyway, I know that sometimes its nice to break up the routine....kind of keep your metabolism "guessing" so it doesn't become "stale" I'm just not really sure what you were doing and what you are going to be doing, so it is hard to give a really accuarate opinion, but I think you sound like you have a game plan so I stay STICK WITH IT!! and GO FOR IT!!!
Good luck with the rest of your goal!! You're AWESOME!! :drinker:

Your theory sounds very logical and seems like the perfect plan however your results aren't backing your theory "gained some weight while being on maintenance".....I don't know what to advise, I'm interested to see what others think too! Either way best of luck to you on the ChaLEAN, let me know how it goes and if you like it....I have tried P90, Barry's Bootcamp, Hip Hop Abs...and none of them motivate me to stick with it :grumble:

Oh yea congrats on the 68 lb lost that's awesome  :drinker:

Thank you! I've worked hard to lose the weight but just get frustrated sometimes. I'm used to losing 2-3 lbs a week and when it just plateau's...well i get upset. lol. but i get over it too.

The ChaLEAN Extreme challenge is a 90 day challenge that I'm doing with a group on Facebook starting up July 5th. I've done one 90 day round with ChaLEAN and lost the 30lbs. It's a great workout and very effective. go to www.beachbody.com and you can see the product and check out reviews. I think it's 100% worth it. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE Turbo Jam (which is created by Chalene Johnson who also created ChaLEAN Extreme). My normal workout routines are ChaLEAN Extreme Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for the strength training. Then I also run on those days. But then on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday I do Turbo Jam and go running as well.

I like working out which is why I think I feel so weird about being on maintenance mode. This is the first time since Feb 2007 that I've gone more than 1 day without exercising. I've been on maintenance mode and NOT working out. I want to seriously SHOCK my body back into weightloss mode.

I've also never been a fan of eating all my exercise calories so part of my NEW challenge with ChaLEAN Extreme is to actually EAT all my calories. INCLUDING my exercise cals. I was on a strict 1200 a day calorie plan even though MFP said to eat 1350 AND Exercise cals. so my new goal is to do what MFP says.

I'm also going to invest in getting a Body Bugg. Chalene has gotten a code for all the Turbo Jammers to get a discount so I'm going to take advantage of that for my birthday. :flowerforyou:

Anyways, I'm hoping this additional info will help you guys understand and maybe advise. Thanks! :flowerforyou:

I think it is a sound theory. Gaining a few pounds back (like 3 or less) when you make a major change is normal, it should come right back off. If you gain more than that, though, maybe your maintenance cals are too high for your particular body.

I am doing the exact same thing - well, minus the chalean, LOL. I've been on a plateau for 3 mos and decided to "start over". Not really working out, eating maintenance cals. I've been doing this for 2 weeks and lost 3 pounds so far. (I don't always eat all my calories, usually about every other day.)

I was TERRIFIED to do maintenance. I figured I"d gain all the weight back. I figured if I stopped working out that everything would fall apart. It didn't. My goal is to do this for 6-8 weeks, to really get my body used to being "lazy"... and then I'll jump right back into my step classes and eating less, and I hope to see the kind of results I saw in the beginning.

Remember, the last 20-30 pounds are the hardest to lose, take the longest, and require the most creativity to figure out how your body works. Just keep plugging away.

When I went to maintanence I gained 5 pounds. I lost 3. Then I started jogging and gained 4 back. Now I have lost the 4 pounds but I got smaller during the entire time.

I think you problem is you were not eating enough calories to sustain weight loss. 1200 calories is not enough for a person who does Chalean and runs. You probably need to be eating around 1800 calories instead of 1200.

I have observed in myself your body will only allow so much weight loss before it stops the weight loss by slowing your metabolic rate. It is a protective mechanism to keep you alive. Slow and steady is best.

You have seen great results so for. Enjoy where you are now.:flowerforyou:

i agree with all of you. I need to up my calories AND eat my exercise calories. I never ate them before but now I know you're SUPPOSED to. lol. I feel great though! I went to the doc today and found out I'm pregnant with baby #2! yay!! So I'm still gonna work out and do my ChaLEAN Extreme challenge on July 5th but just increase my cals by like 200 - 300 cals. i'm so excited!
