It all depends on how much you want to lose. Me, it has taken about 4 months to lose 18 pounds... but I'm doing it the healthier way and not drastically cutting calories. My muscles thank me for it.

    This.

"They" say that anything over 2 lbs a week is too fast and not healthy, and even MFP recommends 1 lb a week.

Assuming you have followed your calories, exercised and drank your water.. you should lose.

But you know what happens when you assume....

ETA: Don't get discouraged if you do not see a loss. This is a lifestyle change to get healthy, it's not always about the scale. In fact, MY scale is in timeout right now for making me think it was all about that number.

just keep doing what you're doing. you won't get anywhere if you don't try. plus you're probably living a healthier lifestyle now, which is a plus. being healthy is what it is all about.

oh, and I actually lost like 4-5 pounds the first week. it was mostly water weight though. You'd be surprised how bloated you are from eating junk consistently.

I saw a big loss (7lbs) my first week, but I also cut out beer and soda that week too which is what I think did it for me. But I've since lost 15 more lbs over the past 8 weeks, but now it's more a pound or 2 a week. That first week I think was a soda fluke lol. Good luck, stick with it and you will see results, just don't expect a huge difference to happen over night.

Hey I think it depends how drastically you alter your routine. This is my first week too, I cut out beer and cut way back on carbs and I lost over 5 lbs in 5 days. I weighed 166 and now I'm 160.2. I walk for 20-30 min a day for exercise. think most of it is water weight, but it is very motivating to see such immediate results. Another thing I started doing which I think is helping tons is DRINK MORE WATER!! I drink 2 L a day and it's doing some great work for me.

    Good luck!

It is common to see some change after a week, but not everyone does. Some people even see an increase on the scale because of water fluctuations. Please don't be discouraged if you don't see a good loss straight away. Weight loss really is a long-term thing. I've lost about 25 lbs since January and some weeks I've lost a lot, other weeks none at all. A couple of weeks I've even gained, even though I was doing everything right. I see other people who have lost a lot more in the same time, but honestly, for most of us, it just doesn't come off as quickly as we'd like! Just keep at it! :flowerforyou:

You'll see small changes after a week almost definitely. :D Just remember that slow and steady progress is PERFECT progress.

Ive lost almost 50(40 of those being on mfp) and I still don't think I look different. But everyone I see who I haven't seen in a while say they can see a huge difference :) if your like me, YOU won't see any changes. But others sure will!!! Lol, and suddenly I need to wear a belt, and buy large sized shirts!!! Good bye xlarge, but I don't see any change. It is the strangest thing haha
  • I lost my 41lb since 3rd Jan 2012. BUT I have been stuck with no weight loss for about 7 weeks - I got frustrated and worried, but now I have had my Body Fat measured turns out I have lost 4.5% in the last 5 weeks. It's not about the scale all the time - it will happen when it happens. I am happier now I can see a loss of some sort. Onward.......
