What is your calorie needs to maintain?

According to the bmr calculator on this site I have a bmr of 1623. Using the Harris Benedict equation
I find that I need 2000 calories to maintain my weight.
How does this affect my diet and weight loss?
I know this site says that their bmr calculator is more accurate but when I used the equation I got the same BMR...
My goals were at 1200 calories for awhile and I usually ate under that. So really I was eating 700+ calories less than I needed to maintain my weight.
Harris Benedict Formula
To determine your total daily calorie needs, multiply your BMR by the appropriate activity factor, as follows:
If you are sedentary (little or no exercise) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.2
If you are lightly active (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/week) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.375
If you are moderatetely active (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.55
If you are very active (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days a week) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.725
If you are extra active (very hard exercise/sports & physical job or 2x training) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.9
I find that I need 2000 calories to maintain my weight.

BMR = 2300
Daily goal = 1860
Maintain = 3300
TDEE ~ 3000 (Guess)
I exercise 400-700 daily.
Net ~ -1200cal per day roughly.
Some days better than others.

The way you figured your maintenance is a VERY BASIC model of how to figure it.
I weigh 110 pounds and am a woman, and I maintain at 1800-1900. I HIGHLY DOUBT you, as a guy, maintain at 1900, also, why would you deduct calories for exercise rather than add them? If you're eating 1400 a day you are going to starve yourself. Especially if you exercise.

Wow, I think you should eat A LOT more.
I'm a 125lb. girl and I maintain eating 1900 + exercise calories, often over 2300 gross. I can't even fathom eating less than 1200 as a dude. I have eaten that much in one sitting several times.

I know him. Hes a shorter guy. 5'4" I think I'm 6' 2" and I eat around 1800 - 1900 per day. I feel great. I'm dropping just over 2lb per week.

ummm I think there is something amiss with those calculators. I just put all of my details into the first 4 of them and they all told me that I should be eating almost 4000 calories a day!
I was eating less then that whilst merrily growing fat! lol0 -

For me, I need about 5,000-6,000 calories to maintain when I'm not exercising. 8,000-10,000 otherwise. Nutella, bacon, and Guiness help out a lot.0

I've been using the calculator under http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm and used the advanced option of adding your body fat. So far it is going very well for me.0

Using the calculators my maintenance is about 1900-2100
I'm 5 70 -

probably 15% bodyfat currently (just finished a bulk)
Maintenance hovers right around 2750-2900.0 -
I'm 5'9", 158lbs. My average TDEE is about 2600.0

TDEE is about 1850 with no exercise - up to 3,800 when I'm teaching riding lessons and training horses all day.
ETA: 1,200 is too few calories for anyone IMHO - much less a man who is not morbidly obese and under medical supervision. you should never eat under your bmr. that means that if you don't have a lot to lose the "2 pounds per week" option is not an option for you.0 -

I'm 5'5" and 172.
My current maintenance = 2186
After you multiply your BMR with your exercise coefficient, you need to then add +(BMR*0.1) ... that's the energy your digestive system uses when you eat. Maybe that's why your number is coming up low? I think you probably need more than what you said to maintain your weight.

5'7" and 125 lbs. My maintenance calories are between 1800 - 2100 (I've been maintaining for a while so I know these are fairly accurate). I have a sedentary job and work out around 4-5 days a week.0

5'5.5" (that 1/2 inch is important, lol), 130 lbs. Maintaining at 2117 - my TDEE, so do not eat back calories unless I get a major burn on. I work out 6 days a week, alternating weights and running.0
