I just moved to a new office building and I have no fridge or microwave. What can I bring for lunch or snacks that don't need either of these? I told my husband that I could probably bring quite a few things still in one of those little insulated lunch bag things? I will have to go buy one. Just looking for ideas please. I am about to go out to eat for the 2nd day in a row and this is going to kill me.... I chose unhealthy yesterday :grumble: but I am going for a salad today!

Granola, fruit, almonds are good choices for snacks. I would definitely invest in a lunch box or mini cooler and bring food from home. Sandwiches, yogurt, salad, things like that. I have a small lunch box that I put ice packs in and they even keep ice cream frozen.
It's really terrible that you have no microwave! Any nearby or in another office/building? That way you could heat up leftovers!0 -
I agree with Courtney, you should definitely get yourself an insulated bag, or a small lunch cooler. It's much better for you to bring low cal stuff from home than to keep eating out. That's not only FAR more expensive in the long run, it's worse too, since you'd be a lot more tempted to make poor food choices.0

The only thing I can think of is sticking to sandwiches and wraps. Oh and salads and fruits. Will they be getting a microwave or would they mind if you invested in a cheap one just to heat your food? Or is this a place that you can't have anything like that?0

Assorted veggies ( carrots, celery, broccoli,etc ) with hummus. I cook chicken up and put it in 3 oz bags. You will deinately need a cooler bag.
For a good snack, get a jar of peanut butter to keep at the office and bring in apples0 -
I have a little soft cooler that I take nearly everywhere with me.
I put cut up veggies with:
hummus or another dip
fruit (usually small snacky ones like berries)
dried fruit and nuts in small portions (for when I have zero time and zero energy)
rarely, I'll include a sandwich or a wrap. or some vegetarian sushi rolls I make. or a salad (but I try to steer clear of anything that needs a fork, as I'm often eating in transit).
A supply of single serve containers and that cooler has made a huge difference in my food intake. Without it, I'd be stuck at the mercy of food that's available when I was hungry. . .a surefire road to eating the wrong things and too much of them, IMHO.:flowerforyou:0 -

Lunchbox!
Although I have access to a fridge, I do not use it.
Boiled egg
Grapes and/or berries
low fat crackers with low fat cheese
cottage cheese
fruit-peaches or pears or apples
cut up veggies and dip
low fat turkey sausage with mustard packs
broiled chicken on a salad (I have a salad bowl with lid, dressing container, and fork/knife built in).
Pretzels
Small can of veggies (green beans, peas, beets, corn, etc.
leftovers from dinner (I often take a normal portioned dinner and only eat half-pack the other half for lunch the next day).
I use a very small ice pack in my lunchbox to keep the contents cool.0 -
Difficult! You will probably need the lunch bag, although thermoses keep things hot or cold quite a while. Hot or chilled soups and stews? Cold wraps, like lettuce wraps. Bean salad, fruit salad, canned tuna with crackers. They have dried portioned foods (meat and potatoes) that you can add hot water to if you have a kettle, but not sure how good they taste or how bad the nutritionals are.0

I agree with what a lot of the others have said.
Get a cooler type lunchbox for foods that need to be chilled.
Get a thermos (closer to winter) for foods you wish to keep warm.
I kept a lot of nuts, dried fruits, 100 calorie packs (hey some like them some don't), pouches of tuna fish (some actually come in tuna fish salad kits with crackers, etc), crackers, pretzels, cereal, etc.
Does your work let you keep a stash of food (that's what I did)? If so, you can keep your dried goods there and only worry about bringing the chilled stuff you want/need.0
