Hi, I have recently started running. Usually I walk and my pedometer estimates cals burned. Today I did 55 mins and pedometer told me I used 174 cals. But I actually ran 26 minutes of it. so basically can any 143lb females give me an estimate of how many cals I would have earned from running 26 mins?

I've heard it's roughly 100 calories for every mile. In the database here, you can plug in Running 10min mile, or 11 min. mile, etc. It's pretty close to what my Nike+ says.

I'm about 5 lbs lighter than you. But, I burn between 100-110 calories per mile depending on my speed and the terrain. I usually run between 8:30 and 10:15 min miles. So I'd say a 250 calorie ball park is right for 26 minutes.

Use the calories MFP estimates for the time and speed you were running, which will include your speed, weight and age in the calculation. Running calorie burn is pretty consistent and you'll get a much more accurate estimate than some other types of exercise.

If you have a smartphone, try using an app like Cardiotrainer or Runkeeper.

It depends on how fast the female is running to get away.

I weigh 140lb & I burn off around 102 cals per mile. Bit more if I run at a faster pace. I wouldn't rely on cals burned by MFP as they overestimate I have found. Either get an HRM or smartphone app. :flowerforyou:

It depends on how fast you were going. Or how far you went.

Thanks everyone - that's been very helpful. I am going to get a HRM now so I can see my progress. x

It's approx. 0.63 calories per mile per pound. So a 143lb person will burn about 90 calories per mile.
