  • Processed foods are a HUGE offender with sodium.
It might be a good idea to try to eliminate some of them from your diet.

I have the same problem because I eat a lot of pre-packaged food. The way to bring it down is to eat more fresh, self-prepared food. :)

Like the others already mentioned, prepared foods are very high in sodium. (They say when you're food shopping, to buy from the outer corners of the store, such as dairy, meat, produce, rather than the inside areas where all the prepared foods are located.)
Other things that are pretty high in sodium are foods such as Pizza and Chinese.

I guess I read her question incorrectly. She said she was 'left' with over 2000 mg's of sodium to me that meant she had that much left to use not actually going over by that amount..... If that is the case as long as you are taking in 500mg - 800mg of iodized salt I would say good job! The 500mg - 800mg is a number recommended by the American Heart Association.

a lot of these have low sodium alternatives, ie, low sodium V8 juice, low sodium ketchup, low sodium cottage cheese, salt free bouillon cubes, etc.
