Black Flagged Race

I am running my first half-marathon tomorrow morning, and the forecast calls for isolated thunderstorms. If there is imminent danger I understand I should seek shelter until it passes, but I hope some of you seasoned runners can help me understand how a black flag during a race works. How bad/close do the storms need to be for officials to cancel the race? If it does storm during the race and officials black flag the race I understand all timing will be suspended, but will I be able to follow the course back to my car (thus timing myself)? Thanks!

It is highly up to the decision of the race officials.
SInce this is your first, if that happens, you STOP and get to shelter, etc. Race officials don't take this stuff lightly.
there will be other races to run0
