Pregnancy + weightloss??

Hi everyone! I just found out today that I'm 6 weeks pregnant. yay! So now I'm wondering if any of you ladies have lost weight while pregnant?
So here's the theory...I up my caloric intake a few hundred calories, continue exercising, and lose weight. My doctor says that since I have 40 more pounds to lose that's this is "theoretically" safe. Now I just want to check with you guys since some of you may have gone through this. I'm at 190 right now (I gained back a few pounds while being on maintenance mode) and I do NOT want to go over 200lbs again. My doc says since I'm still TECHNICALLY obese, it's okay for me to gain 0 - 10lbs but no more than that.
I had a friend who literally gained ONE pound during her pregnancy and then a cousin who was a 12/14 and is now a 00 because of her pregnancy. So...I don't want to be a 00 BUT I'd love to not gain any weight and maybe lose about 10 lbs and stay there the entire pregnancy. But I also want to be SUPER healthy and make sure the baby is 100% okay.
Any thoughts?

Congratulations. :flowerforyou:
During my pregnancy I ate well and exercised often. I gained weight, about 25lbs, but when my daughter was born I weighed 10lbs less than before I was pregnant. I have also known people that were overweight loose weight throughout the pregnancy. I would continue to work with the doctor and if the baby is OK, you should be fine too. I know it was suggested to me not to increase the intensity of my workouts greatly since it will effect the stress level of the baby.0 -
yeah, that's what i figured. keep up the workouts just don't increase intensity. i run an average of 4 miles a day and i know for some that is a strain but for me it's just a great cardio workout. and i'm starting a 90day chaLEAN Extreme challenge on Sunday to start a new year for me (it's my 23rd bday on sunday). that was the original goal so i'm sticking to it! i know that being healthy for myself will also be me being healthy for my baby.
Thanks for the advice!

During my pregnancy with my last baby girl, i lost 20 lbs and gained 0...It was simply because I had no appetite..They ran all kinds of test on me thyroid, dibetes etc....Nothing....I weighed 140 when i got pregnant and after i had the baby i lost the 20lbs + all the baby weight! so in all around 30 lbs...so when i came home i weighed110!!! OMG!! But the downside is that my baby ended up in NICU B/c her lungs didnt fully develop and she was unhealthy b/c she didnt get all of the nutrients she needed when i was pregnant b/c of my poor diet...You can see pics of her and me on my profile while she was in NICU..IDK if eating healthy and losing weight will have the same effect on your baby, cause my diet consisted of maybe a bag of chips for lunch, and if i wanted supper something like a piece of ham or something...No breakfast..So it may work for you if you eat right, but i am not for sure..Good Luck and Congrats on ur lil miracle!0

Sounds like the doctor gave you the OK to lose, but not any specifics. I would set out a specific plan for myself and have him/her approve it.
For a specific plan, first thing I would do would be to stay off the scale. No number on a scale is more important than your precious child. Then I would set my calories to maintenance, with a healthy mix of carbs/protein/fats (50/30/20, 40/30/30, etc.). You don't want to get extreme with any of them. Then listen to your body - if is says to eat even if you have eaten all your calories for the day - then eat (something healthy of course)!
I don't know what the ChaLean Extreme is, but sounds intense. During pregnancy, I would stick to walking and light strength training and stretching. I know the library has good books on exercise during pregnancy.
Congrats on the great news!0 -
yeah, my doc just emailed me about a great pregnancy and exercise book. so i just bought it on amazon. chalean extreme is weightlifting. i already did one round of it over 90 days and loved it! it's just strengtyh training and it's all slow methodical movements to maximize the burn. i'm going to put a plan together with my doc. thanks everyone!!0
