Resistance bands

Hi, all. I'm doing exercise this time around to increase my losses, and I'm looking for some advice on using resistance bands. For those of you who might not know, resistance bands are essentially bungee cords with handles, and they use resistance, rather than gravity, to exercise your muscles.
I'm not a small guy. I'm 6'2" and 273 pounds. I want to use the bands to increase my metabolism and strength. I'm not looking to bodybuild, per se.
I've chosen a few key exercises, and I like them. They're challenging, but do-able. I do about 25 reps in 4 sets each time I exercise. I do not feel like it is enough, but my arms are tired at the end of the 100 reps in all. I've just started, so please don;t laugh if this is ridiculously low. I have no idea.
So my question is, How many sets and repetitions should I be aiming for? How much time should I rest between reps and sets? How long should it take for me to work out each time? How many days a week should I be doing it?
Can you help me?
John.

I've used them in physical therapy and for stretching, but not so much for muscle building. Free weights and weight machines were mostly recommended to me when I finished physical therapy but my problem is building strength to stabalize hypermobile joints0

Can I ask what exercises you're doing? You may want to add in some bodyweight exercises to make up for any muscle groups missed by the resistance band exercises.0 -

Thanks. I chose resistance bands because they are highly portable, low cost, and easy to increase the resistance. I'm not really trying to build muscle, but rather just to improve my form and metabolism. Thanks for the feedback!0 -
I think your 4x6 is pretty good actually. 5-10 reps is a good range to stick with. The only problem with resistance bands is progressively increasing the amount of resistance. Hopefully you have a good selection of them to do this with.
(resting is) largely depending on the exercise, the amount of resistance, and you.
If this is your main resistance training, then 3x a week on 3 nonconsecutive days would probably be best.

Thanks so much for the valuable feedback! I'll stick to my reps and sets equaling 100 reps total, then. I'm glad I'm not doing too little. I'll rest as necessary. I got a three pack of increasing resistance bands of 10, 15, and 20 pounds (approx) of resistance, which can be eventually used together for a total of approximately 45 pounds of resistance. It is my main resistance training, and really my only workout, per se. I also bike and walk and hacky sack, in order to focus on my lower muscles. I'll focus on MWF for resistance training. I'm doing curls (25) side open arm lifts (25) side reverse open arm lifts (25) and front open arm lifts (25).
Your reply was incredibly useful!!0
