What have you found to be the best way to avoid getting stomach cramps etc when running? I've had several 'desperately dash for the loo' experiences lately, and it's starting to make me nervous on my longer runs.

Runners tummy is far more common that you'd think (I've been - so far - lucky and not had any problems)

Some of the recommendations I've come across include avoiding dairy for 24hrs before a long run, cutting back on fibre and/or cruciferous vegetables the day before your long runs.

How soon after eating are your running? Most of my morning runs are on an empty stomach, Sundays I'll eat something light about 2 hrs before I run. If I run too soon after eating I just feel really uncomfortable.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks - I've been trying the dairy thing, but didn't know about cruciferous veg. I'll try that.

It doesn't seem to make much difference whether I run on empty or having eaten. (I sometimes do my run in the evening, sometimes first thing, so have tried both.)
