Are calluses on feet normal for new joggers?

I just added jogging to my workout routine and have done it every evening for 30-45 minutes this week. I noticed today that i have formed some small calluses on some of the impact points on the bottoms of my feet. They aren't particularly painful... I just bought new running shoes as well, Mizuno Wave Rider 8s, but I don't think it's cuz of them because they feel pretty comfy on my feet. It's when I take them off I notice them.

So is that normal for people new to jogging/running to form calluses?

    Yeah. Body is adapting to the higher impact by growing some "shock absorbers."

    I've actually found Bodyglide on the feel to help with that in the past. Haven't done it recently though.

    This may sound weird, but when i was dancing professionally, you WANTED callouses all over your feet because you had to tape your toes less in pointe shoes :P

    BodyGlide = miracle product!

    Also it's great for preventing blisters from strappy shoes/heels. Apropos for this time of year!

    Edit: got distracted by bodyglide and didn't answer the OP. Yes, blisters and calluses are to be expected, especially with new shoes.

    I'm in the minority, I've actually lost calluses. However, confession: I switched to VFFs and other minimalist shoes, so that has really changed the use of my feet.

    If the calluses continue to develop after breaking in your shoes, I'd say they aren't the right shoes for you. Properly fitting shoes shouldn't cause callus development. (The exception might be racking up huge mileage numbers every week.)

    Ok cool since my shoes were fitted to me I'm sure it's the jogging then. This is great to know this is normal. Thanks!!! :happy:

    I didn't develop any new callouses when I started jogging. And I definitely don't get blisters. I do make sure my shoes are very snug when I am running, so my feet don't move around much and I wear some good running socks.
