Hey, I'm new, and trying to gain weight!

I'm 21, 5'5" and 124lbs, but I'm super weak, especially around the core muscles (I can't even do one sit up properly!) so I'm aiming to gain weight, but make the weight gain muscle rather than fat (whilst hopefully converting some existing fat to muscle).

I've joined MFP to try and make sure I eat enough of the right things each day, whilst trying to slowly up the amount of exercise I do to gain muscle mass (I've heard it's not practical to try and lose fat and gain muscle at the same time so I'm opting for the latter first). I'm currently on Week 1 of the Couch to 5k running plan and currently looking at what strength training would be good for a complete beginner - any advice would be great!

Pleased to meet you all!

    Hi!
If you're trying to build up strength I suggest you try Jillian Michael's 'Thirty Day Shred' - it's a pretty easy introduction to get you into some basic weight training - and it helps with crunches!
