I've seen some mention that you can't trust the calories that your elliptical tells you your burning. So, how many calories am I actually burning when I use my machine? If I don't add any resistance I hardly burn anything at all, but I use the setting that use different intervals of resistance. I've been using my elliptical for about a year now and have seen results. I can't afford a gym membership (plus pay a babysitter 5 days a weeks so I can go,) or a new piece of expensive equipment. I've started replacing some of my elliptical workouts with runs in hopes I can overcome my plateu. If anyone could clear this up for me I'd really appreciate it.

I am pretty sure it varies for everyone depending on weight, size, age etc. The best way I can think of is getting a heart rate monitor. I was wondering the very same thing, then I got one. Man it really helps encourage me. It's great!
  • what kind of HRM do you have? Could you recommend a good one?

Well right now I purchased the polar FT7. It tells me my heart rate, my max heart rate, calories burned based on weight hight age sex via your heart rate. It logs all the data, also doubles as a watch. I like all the bells and whistles because it keeps me more educated about my personal exertion and goals. There's tons to choose from but I had a certificate for Polar so I stuck with them.
