Knee Injury has caused me to change how I live. Help?

Hi Guys,
I recently suffered a knee injury. Before this Injury I had gone a few months, losing 3-4LBS a week. However, with the knee injury in place my life style has obviously had to changed and I gained a good chunk of the weight back. I signed up to myfitnesspal around the time my injury occured, so the loss shown here is what I have lost since the injury. My situation right now is that, I've had an MRI scan on my knee and I have a Pre-Op consultation on May 24th.
This has caused me to change everything. I can manage to go to the gym 3 times a week and do seated-weight work (legs not included) and I can walk maybe 10-15 minutes per day before pain kicks in.
As for Diet, my calorie intake has reduced as well as other areas. I have swapped wholemeal bread for soya+linseed bread (not sure if this is a good idea, but I was recommended to by a gym friend) and I am eating gluten free brownrice spaghetti and brown rice in place of wholemeal pasta, like I was before.
I am just wondering if anyone else has been in the same situation as I have and wondered what they did to maintain weight loss?
Thanks
Oliver

It looks like you are doing every thing you can on your own. The only thing I would add has nothing to do with food but really helped me move more and that is Birkenstock Shoes. I have leg and foot pain from a stroke plus an old knee injury so it hurt every time I walked so I found myself sitting and only getting up when I had to. On a whim I bought a pair of Birkenstocks and it has honestly changed my life. They are not attractive but they have helped me be able to get up and do more without the pain. Good Luck0

If the pain is still there after surgery, chances are I will have to look into some more suitable shoes for sure. Thanks.
Hoping someone can come forward and give me just any tips they know. I'm still drinking a lot of water as well as I know that will help.0 -
Hi Oliver,
Im in pretty much the same situation, I injured my knee in january and have only just got to see the physio this week.
For the last 3 months I adapted my routine to be 'knee friendly' - lots of upper body weights, seated at first or standing on days when my knee was feeling better, lots of swimming using arms only, 10-15 mins on treadmill or spin bike with low resistance. My loss was pretty much the same as when I was doing full on exercise and actually showed me that I was eating too little and exercising too much!!!!
Has your Dr said whether its ok for you to do any leg related stuff at all? I stayed off the spin bike until this week, but physio said it would actually help as its totally non weight bearing on the knees.
If you go to a gym, speak to one of the trainers and they will be able to give you a program tailored to suit your injury.
Re your diet, switching from wholegrain pasta to gluten free will do nothing at all for weight loss. Gluten free products tend to have other ingredients to replace the gluten which can actually make the product be higher in cals or fat than a standard version, so unless you have a gluten intolerance or are a diagnosed coeliac its pointless just stick with the normal wholegrain stuff.0 -

Basically, The doctor told me to not go to the gym at all. I am being a sneaky little monkey really. I really need to keep as active as I can or I go completely insane. Like I say, I have 3 weeks until my pre-op date so I just wanna stay as active as I can.
I thought the same about the gluten free stuff. it was cheap so it's no loss anyway!0 -

Ah - id stick to upper body sat down stuff only and totally leg free swimming then, or do as your Dr says and lay off it totally for a few weeks.
i didnt know cheap gluten free stuff exists its usually 15x the price of normal food grrrrrr, where do you get it?????? My sister is coeliac and I am partly diagnosed so that could be useful!!!0 -
