Hello MFP, Ive gotten my bike today its by Schwinn, The bike originally was like 219$ bucks, I got it for 95$ bucks yooo hoo, Im ready to start, the only thing I havent rode a bike since I was 12  . I rode it alittle bit to catch the feel for it. Its not to big either, Its just right for my 5'2 inches height:laugh: ..The bike is a cruiser I hope this is okay for excercising, I got tired of just my stationary, So MFP cyclist here I come I think we should have some sort of challenges especially for us beginners:laugh:  .Wanna join me ?

I tried 3 times to get a cycling thread going. I believe you posted in each of them, but not many other people. Don't know what's up! I thought lots of members of MFP would be into it. Maybe if you start another and call it a challenge, there'll be more hits.

    Biking.

My daughter and I set out on a bike ride today- my second short bike ride this summer, and it was TORTURE.

Good luck though! (Invest in a good seat if your bike doesn't already have one)

The seat is important, but so are the padded shorts. A little expensive, but well worth it. As far as the butt pain goes, if you just push through it and do it more often, it's not really an issue anymore, unless you do a really long ride

    You know I'm in!

I think your bike will be just fine unless you plan on competing in marathons! I just have a cruiser and a mountain bike to choose from, no frills here, and I ride 60+ miles a week!

Here's to a biking challenge-- What's the plan?

Any bike shop will carry them. Or terrybicycles.com has great cycling clothing for women. As far as brands go, I like Pearl Izumi shorts. Good padding

That's my biggest complaint here lately is my booty just HURTS, haha. I can usually push through it but a little extra padding would be amazing.

I have no idea how to get into it either! I have been telling people I am training myself for a marathon of some sort.

I live in an area where there aren't many at all, but I'm determind to figure something out. Even if I have to start one myself.

Maybe we could set up a weekly mileage challenge for all levels.

oh yes a cycling challenge thread sounds wonderful!!!!!!! I put 15 quick miles on the bike today. Should we set a weekly or monthly mile goal and check in on one another? Would love a group to talk cycling with since I am so new to it. If you want you guys can send me your miles logged weekly and I can post everyones progress. What do ya say?

Sounds good me!! I've set a personal goal to ride 1500miles this summer, but would love to take part in a challenge. It will push me to do better. I tried starting a cycling thread a few times since joining and didn't get much response. I want to recommend that everyone watch the Tour de France which starts on Saturday and runs for 3 weeks. VS Network has great coverage and it's so exciting!!!! :drinker:

Ok so lets do this to start. If you want to join the challenge you can do one of four weekly mile goals. pick from the following
    15 miles
    30 miles
    60 miles
    or
    100 miles

Just PM me that you want to join the group and what mile goal you want to work toward. Then each monday shoot me a PM with the total miles you rode for that week and I will keep track of it so I can post it for your fellow riders to see once a week. Oh and of course we can come to the thread to shop talk about cycling and support each other as we work toward our cycling goals. how's that sound?

of course if you want to do more than 100 miles in a week you may feel free to send me any goal you have for yourself. important part is that you set a goal and have others to bug you about reaching it.
