How many calories?

Yesterday I spent four hours digging a small pond, hauling the dirt by wheelbarrow about twenty five yards, hauling limestone rocks (avg weight 20 pounds) and building a 20 foot retaining wall. Heart rate probably never rose above 100 bpm.

Any guess on how many calories that may have burned?

There is an option under exercise for "gardening, general." That said, MFP usually is generous in their calorie give in all exercises, but it sounds like you were working hard. Your heart rate doesn't have to raise high to burn calories! Your workout was more equivalent to strength training. I usually take 1/2 to 2/3 of their suggested calories based on how hard I was working.

I found a study that says a 185 pound person burns 222 calories in 30 minutes. I imagine that hauling rocks in a wheelbarrow is similar. I guess that would equate to about 1600 calories. As long as I burned the excess calories from Friday's over indulgence.
