How did you decide what activity level to set???

Hi I'm a bit confused about how to accurately choose my activity level. The choices seem to have a lot of leeway in them!
Currently I've set to sedentary and then I log cardio excercise and aim to eat about half of those calories back, as that seemed a safe option and a conservative estimate of calories burned. I walk for at least 30 minutes a day and often more, and I go the gym to use weights for about 20 minutes every other day. I don't work so I'm generally pottering about, not sitting all day but not doing anything strenuous either
The other levels have what seems very sketchy guidance, such as "exercising 3 times a week", or "5 times a week" or whatever. That could mean anything from a gentle stroll in the park to an 90 minutes in the gym plus a zumba class, couldn't it?
How did you decide what level to set, and what was your rationale? What's your definition of "exercise" in this context? And have you come across any more detailed guidance?
