I have been doing heavier weights for a while now, and I have big thighs that I would like to slim down. Someone told me to try Pilates. Does anyone have good DVD suggestions?

I like Ellen Barrett's pilates DVDs. They're on netflix if you have it. I just like how they make my body feel. They're pretty wimpy though honestly lol. More for stretching out and feeling good than for an actual workout. I barely sweat through 45 minutes of it. I don't know where to find a more advanced pilates DVD. :/

Yeah I'd really like more of an advanced one.

I own the Winsor Pilates VHS tapes (yeah, laugh), that I bougth 9 years ago on a late night infomercial while feeding my newborn. I LOVED THEM!. I did them over my maternity leave and lost inches in my hips, stomach, arms and tthighs. You can do them anywhere, and there are ways of making them harder or easier (think elastic band around knees when doing "the clam"). The tapes are a series of total body workout, or legs or abs -- covers everything. I have a friend who has them on DVD, , , so I know they still exist! They start out with good intro ont he breathing, purpose , etcetera.

I just finished a 6 week pilates class, and am goign to dust of the old VCR and bring out those tapes again.

Try: http://www.youtube.com/user/blogilates . Her workouts are fun and tough. If you haven't done pilates before, start with the beginner ones to get the form down. You can then string together workouts to make a full body workout or whatever else you want. The thing about Pilates is that if you don't concentrate on form and really think about resisting each movement, it isn't going to feel hard and you won't get anything out of it.
