you don't need a special treadmill or anything, though i have seen expensive treadmills that time it for you and assist.

This is a general good explanation!

I don't have HIIT on my treadmill, which is new. Is this something I have to buy? Right now I've started doing interval training alternating speed, incline, back and forth. I just started this past week so will be interested to see results.

I do my HIIT training with kettlebells. By the end of a workout I'm feeling like I'm going to puke! Seriously kicks my butt.

Here is some info on HIIT and also an area for beginners. I was always told that you have to be going 100% full-out for HIIT. For example sprints, you sprint as hard and as fast as you can for 30 seconds and then walk for a minute.

If you're doing "HIIT" for 45 mins then you're not really doing HIIT. 4-6MPH isnt sprinting, unless you're 300lbs.
