How to use the badge??

Can someone give me simple step-by-step instructions on how to cut and paste the badge HTML into a website like facebook? I tried cutting and pasting it and entered it on facebook where you can provide a status update, but it just shows as the html mumbo jumbo... I don't get it, but I would like friends to know I've lost 46 pounds so far... from 271 to 225.
