how to recover from a bad haircut?
I used to have hair down to almost my waist which was indication for me to go get it cut. i wanted to get it cut to just above the middle of my back. well, the haircutter decided to do her own thing and now i have a really short looking mullet that looks hideous on me. i about cried. since i was so unhappy, they decided to not charge me, but the hair is gone, and it can't even be fixed since it's so short and has even shorter layers.
What do I do? Felt like screaming at the haircutter in a crying fit (that's how bad it is) but didn't.

If it's that bad, keep it up. Ponytail, braids, buns...0

Pictures?
I'm sure it's not as bad as you think it is. Then again, out of the six times I've cried in my life, the last one was over a hair cut. [It was only eleven years ago too...how embarrassing].

You mi like it better if you play around with styling it differently yourself. I seldom like how a hairdresser styles my hair (usually ends up too popfy for my liking) but once I do it myself and just straighten it and let it lay naturally I usually like it better.
I wear my hair up in a ponytail about 90% of the time. If you don't like the haircut but are afraid to get it cut again and end up wi something even shorter that you still don't like, you could wear it up most of the time while you wait for it to grow out. You could also wear those cute thick headbands or a pretty scarf to keep it away from your face and kind of camouflage the actual haircut if you hate the way the cut falls around your face. That might work better if it's too short to pull back al, the way, too.
You could also ask around and get some amazing recs for a place that will give you extensions. You can have some length back in your hair *right now* if you do that, and it might make you feel better while you're waiting for it to grow back out to a point where you can get a haircut that you can be happy with. I think that might require some special care/maintenance and it does be expensive though, so it wouldn't be my first option if there's a simpler way for you to deal with it for awhile.0 -
I have had some bad haircuts before! I just got mine cut recently and well, it's not awful, but I am just not feeling it.
I would play around with ways of pinning it up and see what you like the best. I have had to do that with mine and my bangs (they were cut WAAAAY to short)0 -
It's okay, luckily it'll grow back. I bet it doesn't look as bad as you think it does.0

As you can see, I never did... 8(0

Sorry you got a bad cut, but at least it will grow out. :flowerforyou:0 -
If it's really horrible, take a deep breath and go get another haircut. Get a pixie cut and let it grow out again.
Side note: Did you go to a salon or a second rate place?0 -
If you don't want it reshaped to fix what you have, you can always buy a wig or two to wear until your hair gets to a point you feel better about.0

Sounds like you still have a lot of length, you could get a shorter style that you like better. A good short style can grow out more gracefully than a bad long one.0

I'm a hairstylist, and have done just about everything to my hair. When I was unhappy with shorter locks I invested in some hair extensions. Just keep them in until your hair grows back! (Clip in ones as they don't damage the hair as much & you can take them out at night.)
Another alternative is keeping your hair pinned up.0 -
I was considering a wig or extensions but need to save the money for school. I went to JCPenney's salon for this.
I think I'm going to let it grow out this month and see how much I can tolerate it then. If I can, then let it grow out some more. If I really can't tolerate it then, I need to see if there is another cut that would make my hair likeable until it grows back.
Right now, I'm just praying to the hair gods that it's not this hideous all summer long.
Thanks everyone! Your posts really calmed me down and gave me some hope.0 -

I paid 30$ for my extensions, real hair, heat style-able. You buy the clips & sew them yourself.
If you have a picture of what you have now, perhaps we can help you come up with some alternatives!0
