How did you decide on your tatoo?

Speaking of tatoos, how did you decide what you wanted permanently on your body? The hubs and I talk about tatoos all the time, neither of us have one and we both debate getting them. His desired tatoo has never changed, so I really think he should just bite the bullet and get it, he's never faultered on what he wants. I on the other hand just can't determine when, where, and what. It's changed several times over the past 15 years, and so I start to think "well thank goodness I've never gotten one because I may have been dissatisfied with it now."

So, how did you pick yours? How did you know that was the one you just had to have? Any regrets?

    Ha! Yeah, it's definitely something you want to put some thought into. If I'd gone with the first tat I thought of, I think I'd regret it by now - it was a sketch I'd done myself of this weird hippie peace flower. Thankfully the fee was a lot higher than my brother wanted to pay for my 18th birthday present!

    My first tat I ended up getting was sort of on a whim. I was in the process of picking my official tat and it was going to be a fairly big one so a friend talked me into a small trial tat from the flash collection. We both got the chinese symbol for friend on our lower backs. I sort of regret it because we're not even friends anymore but I still like the tat.

    Put a lot more thought into my second tat. I have a thing for angels and other fantastical human/oid creatures with wings so I knew I wanted something like that. Not just because I like that image either, but also as a representation of my loved ones who have passed and are looking out for me. Searched images online for months and finally found a gorgeous pen and ink sketch that was perfect for me. Tried contacting the artist but they weren't active on the website they'd posted the picture on anymore so my tattoo artist did a redraw with some slight modifications so it was more "inspired by" that picture.

    I was that way for several years. I just couldn't think of anything I wanted on myself for the rest of my life. And then I instead decided that I wanted the experience of getting a tattoo and as long as it was something I liked now and was simple, who cares if I don't like when I'm 70? The experience of getting my first tattoo with my best friend was more worth it than the actual tattoo, to be honest.

    My first one I had in mind for over a year before I did it. I thought well if I still love it for that long, I will always love it. I actually forget I even have it most of the time. lol! My second one, I saw a picture online and I was instantly in love with it. when I took it to the artist he did his own spin on it and I love it even more then the picture online!

    my next one I will get once I hit my 163lb goal. I am ready for it! lol! They are addicting!

    Hi
    Got an Indian sun tattooed on my back when I lived in a tipee in Australia, never regretted it as I remember the time fondly - ah youth! I copied the picture from the side of the tipee and the tattoo artist copied it then.
    The best tip that I was given by the guy doing it was go with a grey outline makes the tattoo softer somewhat, less harsh then black. I'm Irish and pale so it worked for me. Also I recommend that you visualise an elderly person with your tattoo, if you think it would look horrible then u know!,,:smile:

    All my tattoos are stuff that have special or significant meaning to me, or just respresent me, as a person.

    As a breakdown;

    My paw print was my first tattoo. I couldn't think what I wanted, but the paw print idea came to me because I love animals, was a new vegetarian and done a lot of animal activism.

    My Eunoia tattoo; I saw the phrase somewhere and fell in love. Its meaning fits me perfectly, and it was just what I wanted.

    My deoxyribonucleic acid tattoo was because I love science, and always have. The first time I heard the full word for DNA, I LOVED it. I repeated it for about a week, LOL. It's such a cool word. I also got it because DNA is the one thing unique to us all, and is the building blocks of life.

    My birds tattoo is less significant. I saw a tattoo similar (but my tattoo ended up looking NOTHING like it, LOL) and liked it. I want to get more done to the birds, though, to make them look more interesting.

    My ying-yang tattoo is crap and I intend on getting it covered. But I chose it because A) ying yangs are nostalgic to me, and I love the meaning behind them B) I was desperate for a new tattoo and wanted it cheap.

    I have a new tattoo booked for the 19th. I can't wait! It's going to be all 9 planets (I know they dropped Pluto, but it's still a planet to me!) going down the middle of my back. I'm getting the outline first. I chose this because I have always been deeply connected to and interested in the cosmos. I truly want to visit outer space one day, and intend to. The planet tattoo is an artistic representation of my love for outer space.

    :)

    Edit;

    these are my tattoos

    (two of them were redone after the apprentice messed them up and need a bit of a touch up again)

    And my planets tattoo will look similar to this (but personalised to me and my tattoo artist)
