Need a new wardrobe!!

Like many people who are overweight, for the last few years I have hated shopping for clothes. Nothing looked good and everything reminded me of how I had let myself go.

I fell into the whole trap: Voluminous shirts untucked, slip on shoes, "hidden" elastic waist band pants. What was worse is that I was in sales in a fitness-related industry--hardly a good example for potential customers.

I had a $600.00 suit that I bought for my wedding in 2001 and wearing it was a distant memory. When my mother passed away in June 2008 I had to rush out to Kohl's to buy a suit off the rack to go to the funeral. Nothing says desperation like having to buy a suit from Kohl's--but there was no way I was going to spend big bucks on a fat suit. Our wine tasting group has a Christmas dinner at a local hotel restaurant that is meant to be semi formal. Some guys wear tuxes, everyone else wears suits--except me in the corner with the sweater because that's all that I had that fit.

3.5 months and 43 pounds later, I have a new problem. Old dress pants? Gone. Funeral fat suit? Gone. Wedding suit? Jacket is now too big; pants just barely stay up. Workout shirts and shorts? Look like Arab robes now.

I am running out of stuff to wear. I now only have one pair of pants--I pair I bought several years ago and outgrew them before I ever put them one. The smaller clothes that I saved are all outdated. My belt has an extra 6 or more inches sticking out when I buckle it.

I don't want to go out and buy a lot of stuff now for two reasons: 1) I am out of work and can't really afford a shopping spree and 2) I still would like to lose 25-35 more lbs, so I am not sure exactly where I am going to end up.

Needless to say, I am THRILLED to have this problem. It really has changed my life. Now my wife teases me because, for the first time almost since we were married, I will walk around the house without a shirt on.

I have a suggestion that should fit your limited budget. Look around for resale clothing shops in your area.

In my area, besides Goodwill, there are other resale stores, some run by charities, some as for profit operations. Either way, they pretty much all carry men's clothing as well as women's and kids. You should be able to come up with some things that fit without melting your VISA card or putting your wallet on life support:bigsmile:

Congratulations on your success. We should all have the problem of all of our clothes being too big!!

I had the same problem while I was loosing and I visited my local Value Village and Goodwill stores and found AWSOME designer name clothing that looked like no one had ever worn it. I went back for several sizes until I reached my goal. I turned around and sold them on Ebay for a profit  It was GREAT!

A GREAT BIG CONGRATULATIONS FOR YOUR PROBLEM AND YOUR HARD WORK KEEP IT UP !!

I have to second the suggestions for thrift store clothing. I had never stepped foot into a thrift store until the owner of the melodrama theatre I worked at asked me to help her shop for costumes for the upcoming show. I thought we were heading to Target & instead ended up at Savers (like Goodwill). We left with pants/shirts for 6 guys of various sizes, a couple pairs of shoes, & some ladies clothes too for under $50. I found out later that all the theatres warddrobe that wasn't donated or made was bought at thrift stores including lots of formal wear. Definitely the best way to go if ur on a budget & know your wardrobe won't last very long :)

    Thrift stores!!! :)

You could also look for/ post an ad for clothing in your size on sites like kijiji or Freecycle.
