I use my calorie counter as an approximate counter for the day. I don't worry to much if I am either slightly over or under the acutal limit.
We are working with much reduced caloric intact to begin with and I think its better not to stress out about a few calories in either direction.
If it is for a few snacks, I go for nuts, berries, trail mix, an extra piece of fruit, maybe some raw veggies, pop-corn. Try and stay away from the sugary snacks.0 -
You actually want lots of protein....going over is not a bad thing. This site sets protein very low, in a lot of people's opinions.
Also, the Food Diary here does not differentiate between natural sugars found in fruits (fructose) and dairy (lactose) and the added sugars you find in processed foods. Try to keep your added sugars low but don't worry about fructose and lactose so much.0 -
I keep hearing nuts and berries are great, but there is SO little for SO many calories. They are not very filling and I hate it to say get old quick. Isn't there something out there that tastes great and is grossly low in calories?
Also, quick question, which breads are bad to eat (IE turn into sugars)?0 -
1. About nuts. Almonds are great, walnuts are next. Not all nuts are created equal so might want to do some research. And adding 6 to a snack like yogurt is only 42 additional cals. So my Light and Fit Yogurt (60 cals) with nuts (42 cals) is a 102 cal snack.
2. Tastes great and ultra low in cals
- Sugar free jello (5 cals a serving) with low fat Redi-Whip (5 cals) or regular Redi-Whip (15 cals). 10 - 20 cals depending on how you crack it.
- Sugar Free popcicles (20 cals a wack)
- Jala ice cream sandwich (100 cals a wack)
- Redi-whip between graham crackers and frozen (varies but definately can keep this under 100)
- Salad with cranberries and pita chips (watch quantity but another easy to keep under 100 cals)
- 1 whole wheat flat bread round with low fat cheese, chicken and tomato toasted (under 100 cals)
- 1 apple with low fat yogurt to dip (depends on size of yogurt and apple, about 120)
- 1 cup strawberries (48 cals) with 2 tbsp Redi-whip (5 or 15 cals) or non-sugar sweetener (0 cals) or the way I eat them, plain
3. What breads are bad? - simple sugars, i.e., white bread, some pitas, etc.
Agree that protein is cool. I'm always over on protein and always under on sugar
Good luck!!0
