Can anyone give me a HIIT sample for treadmill or elliptical?

Heard GREAT things about HIIT with success in losing body fat/losing weight.. I want to get started tomorrow! My best friend has lost 12 lbs in 1 month by doing HIIT!

I have a firm belief that heavy strength training will give you better results. There's about 100 women on this forum who will happily back me up on that too!

But, for HIIT I always use the tabata format. 20 seconds FULL EFFORT!! 10 seconds rest. Repeat 8x then break.

You can download HIIT timers for free from the Android market too.
  • 9.0 Run really fast for 1 min
    6.5 - Jog 2 min
    4.0 - Walk 1 min rest
    Repeat.. amazing workout

I'd say 1 minute walks and 30 second sprints.

After you're done lifting, of course. :3

How on earth do you measure how fast you are walking/running??? :)

There are a few HiiT timers in the iPhone app store. Helps keep you going. Makes the time pass faster too.

Most people are doing this on a treadmill/elliptical that has a speed readout

Currently I do the following, and it leaves me dripping sweat with a t-shirt that needs ringing out by the end:

    10 min warmup (6kph 2incline)

    Then 20 mins of:
    6kph 2incline 1mins (walk)
    9kph 2incline 2mins (jog/run)

    5min cooldown

    Then 20 mins of:
    6kph 0incline 2mins (walk)
    11kph 0incline 1mins (run/sprint)

    5min cooldown

Remember to take a rest, you want to do this two to a max three times a week if you are doing it properly, otherwise you're not pushing hard enough in the high intensity parts.

Nerd Fitness is also a fun read http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/top-posts/

I do 20 mins on the treadmill 2x a week.

    2 min warmup 4.0
    1 min jog 6.5
    30 second sprint at 8.5
Recover walk for 1.5 min 4.0
    Repeat until 20 minutes

This is the only form of cardio I do.
